But some streets aren't in the
clear, yet.

the secondary roads in all 12 counties
of the Salem district are in moderate
condition.

That means drivers can expect to
see icy conditions.

Drivers should also stay alert on
hills, ramps, bridges and overpasses.

the night to apply chemicals and to
keep the roads clear.

GRAPHIC=Accident A bridge on Interstate 81 over

the New River was damaged in an
accident this morning.

It happened around 7:40 a-m at
the second Radford exit.

A truck driver hit a patch of ice
and lost control.

His big rig skidded along the
side of the bridge before the vehicle
jackknifed and the front two tires and
engine went over the side.

No one was injured and no charges
will be placed.

V-DOT and State Police officials
say the damage was not that bad and the
bridge is still safe to drive on.

morning cleaning off the roadways here
in Central Park because they know that

when the temperature starts to dip.. it
will all turn to ice.

THE STORM HAD FATAL RESULTS IN THE
MIDWEST.. AT LEAST 10 DEATHS ARE BLAMED
ON SLIPPERY ROADS.. WHERE MORE THAN 10
INCHES FELL IN PARTS OF MISSOURI AND
KANSAS.

PRELIMINARY STORM TOTALS IN THE
NORTHEAST RANGE FROM 6 TO 10 INCHES..
PENNSYLVANIA AND NEW JERSEY GOT THE
WORST WITH OVER A FOOT IN SOME PLACES.

Roanoke residents are responsible for
having their sidewalk cleared three
hours after snow and or ice stops
falling.

If the precipitation occurs
largely overnight sidewalks should be
cleared by nine the next morning.

King says in the case of an
accumulation of ice, like the situation
seen today he understands if residents
are slow to shovel.

But he does stress that the city
code is as much about safety as it is
for looks.

Southwest Airlines plane that skidded
off the runway in Chicago.

criminal accused of stealing stamps.

member of Bedford County's police
force earlier this year-

He became interested in that
