teenager accused of killing his
grandmother in November readily
confessed to the crime.

The investigator said 14 year-old
Chris Jamison told him he repeatedly
stabbed Jean Jamison and then cut her
throat.

"everywhere." Valley Road.

Her grandson, 14- year-old
Christopher Sterling Jamison was
sitting in the driveway when police
arrived.

In two interviews with a county
detective, Chris Jamison explained how
he removed the largest knife from a
rack above the kitchen sink, put it
under a pillow and walked into the room
where his grandmother was smoking a
cigarette.

Jamison told the officer he said

he was sorry before wielding the knife.
Asked where he stabbed his
grandmother, Jamison told the detective
"everywhere.">>

The case goes to the grand jury
in February.

mayor Carl Hutcherson are now seeking
to have government attorneys taken off
the case.

John Fishwick filed a motion today
to disqualify the U-S Attorney's

office, claiming prosecutor Tom
Bondurant is a material witness to
Count Six of the indictment. The
Government says, "No," the F-B-I took
Hutcherson's statement, not Prosecutor
Bondurant.

Hutcherson is accused of bank and
Social Security fraud as well as
providing false statements to the
government.

Bondurant says the defense motion
is frivolous. At the same time, he is
seeking to have Hutcherson's attorneys
disqualified from representing him.

The fire broke out just after four at
E.C. Chocklett Concrete and Pottery on
Route 460 in Blue Ridge.

Firefighters say someone had lit a

fire in the stove and then left it
unattended.

They're looking at that as the
possible cause.

No one was injured and the building

and now the fires are under
investigation.

This was the scene this morning at
the home on 22nd street late this
morning.

Firefighters were just at this
vacant house last night when they put
out a small blaze there..

Today was much different.. the
flames and smoke took over the home-
fire officials say it's a total loss..
and now they're calling the blaze

suspicious.

tons of leaves last year.

Curbside collection is popular
among Roanoke residents- -though a few
will always say the city starts too
late- -before all the leaves are on the
ground- -while others complain that the
leaf crews quit early in the season.

They're still out there this
year, by the way, vacuuming leaves out
of the gutter.

And this is where they end up: at
Rockydale Quarries.

What on earth does a rock quarry
do with all those leaves? They turn
them into dirt.

certified top soil, low in acid, high
in organic matter.

The quarry mixes last year's
leaves with "sap rock," a sort of
decomposed waste product of the
quarrying process.

Having taken all the leaves the
city can provide, Rockydale turned to
the County.

LEAVES.

and county aren't even enough. There's
so much demand for the end product: the
top soil, Rockydale is looking for
still more organic matter to make into
dirt.
