was supposed to delay the homecoming of
the 424th Transportation Company of
Galax.
But they got here earlier than
expected, just in time for the
holidays.

heard in Parliament, the violence may

southeastern Utah.

of killing his grandmother will likely
face charges in Circuit Court.
A first- degree murder charge was
certified to the grand jury yesterday,
as investigators revealed more details
about the crime.

hearing, a detective testified that 14-
year- old Chris Jamison (JAM-i-sun)
admitted killing his grandmother.

explained how he took a knife from the
kitchen, put it under a pillow and
walked into the room where Jean Jamison
was smoking a cigarette.
The teenager said he told his
grandmother he was sorry, before he
stabbed her in the back, abdomen, and

take the post of secretary of natural
resources in Governor-elect Tim Kaine's
cabinet.
The Lynchburg Republican led 17
fellow House Republicans in
breaking with their party's anti- tax

Bryant's appointment is scheduled for
later today.
Last winter, Bryant lost his seat

task force has completed its study of
crime on Virginia's college campuses.

dispatch records for 69- colleges and
universities.
Yesterday, it released dozens of
recommendations that include offering
rape defense courses and developing

40 of the schools studied don't
have campus police departments...
instead, they employ or out-source
security officers.
The group is asking the
legislature to come up with a uniform
training program for those officers.

State police charged a driver
with an improper lane change after
running his car off the road into a
guardrail, and hitting a
tractor-trailer.
The left lane was closed for

the holiday and construction.

released in the case of a Roanoke
County teenager accused of killing his
grandmother.
During a preliminary hearing
yesterday afternoon, a county detective
said Chris Jamison admitted stabbing
his grandmother more than a dozen
times, and then slitting her throat.

November 61- year- old Jean Jamison...
died November 5th at her home on Poage
Valley Road.
Her 14- year- old grandson was
sitting in the driveway when the
detective arrived.
The officer said Jamison
explained how he took the largest knife
from a rack in the kitchen, put it
under a pillow, then walked into the
room where his grandmother was sitting.
According to the detective,
Jamison said he told his grandmother he
was sorry, before stabbing her in the
back.

mayor Carl Hutcherson are now seeking
to have government attorneys taken off
the case.
John Fishwick filed a motion
yesterday to disqualify the U-S
Attorney's office, claiming prosecutor
Tom Bondurant is a material witness to
Count Six of the indictment. The
Government says, "No," the F-B-I took
Hutcherson's statement, not Prosecutor
Bondurant.
Hutcherson is accused of bank and
Social Security fraud as well as
providing false statements to the
government.
Bondurant says the defense motion
is frivolous. At the same time, he is
seeking to have Hutcherson's attorneys
disqualified from representing him.

sentences, but two men convicted of
sexual assault in Virginia have been
exonerated by a review of old D-N-A
samples.

cases that were part of a random review
ordered by Governor Mark Warner last
year.
The evidence reviewed had been
saved from cases between 1973 and 1988,

As a result the governor is

case files be tested.
Officials estimate there are
about 300.
Most of them are sexual assault
cases.

forced to release information regarding
the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

The House committee investigating the
government's response to the disaster
has issued a subpoena ordering the
Pentagon to turn over records by the
end of the year.
Lawmakers also want documents related
to the storm from the White House.. and
will decide after a private meeting
today whether ANOTHER subpoena is
needed.
During yesterday's hearing, they
challenged Louisiana governor Kathleen
Blanco on the timing of hurricane
evacuation orders.
But she defended the state's actions.

Washington and Lee says it had an
agreement with Tulane and Loyola to
send the displaced students back at the
end of the semester.
The university says only a couple
of students have expressed an interest
to stay.
Officials say those students may
apply next summer as transfers.

and police are asking for your help.

The suspects made away with an

quarter of a million dollars - a state
task force has completed its study of
crime on Virginia's college campuses.

File Tape The Campus Safety Task Force
poured over thousands of crime logs and
dispatch records for 69- colleges and
universities.
Yesterday, it released dozens of
recommendations that include offering
rape defense courses and developing
procedures for dealing with crime
victims.
40 of the schools studied don't
have campus police departments...
instead, they employ or out-source
security officers.
The group is asking the
legislature to come up with a uniform
training program for those officers.
Virginia Tech Police Chief Debra
Duncan says she's pleased with the
recommendations.
