after she was hit by a car.

Fifty three year old Bonnie Davis was
crossing Dawn Drive in Bedford about
6:30.
She was struck by the car being
driven by 20 year old Catherine
Hollish.
Davis died at the scene.
No charges have been placed, but the
accident is still under investigation.

the attorney general's race is set to
begin - attorneys for Creigh Deeds are
in court.

their vote- tabulating machines-
arguing some weren't counted on
election day.
A witness testified that the
difference in the total number of votes

Clark off the list of potential
coaching candidates for its football
team.

taken his name out of the running to
replace Cal McCombs in Lexington.
Clark met with the V-M-I brass earlier
this month to talk about the opening
but in the end decided it wasn't the
right move.

he has coached at all three levels in
the state - starting out as the
defensive coordinator at Tech, before
being an assistant and VMI and later
the head coach at Bridgwater where he
has transformed the Eagles into

Giles Spartans won their 3rd state
championship. But that hasn't
diminished the excitement in
Pearisburg.

December 10 The Giles fans will have another
chance to celebrate Steve Ragsdale and
his Spartan team tomorrow afternoon.
There will be a victory parade
beginning at 4 o'clock that will run
the traditional route through town
along Main Street. This is Giles first
state championship since 1993. The
Spartans beat the defending state
champion Manassas Park 35 to 34 in
Harrisonburg to bring home the
hardware.

redistricting and reclassification
recommendations for 2007 will have a
big effect on the Blue Ridge district
and at the same time enhance the
Western Valley.

VO-NAT Starting in 2007 - William
Fleming will leave the Group Two A
ranks and return to Triple A in all
athletics as a member of the Western
Valley district.
This will give that district six
teams stretching from Roanoke to South
Boston.
Also, Alleghany will be leaving
the Blue Ridge and moving to the Valley
district.
The Mounties move into the Valley
South with Rockbridge.
The question now is will the
remaining Blue Ridge and River Ridge
form a 9 team super district or two
smaller leagues of four and five teams.

GRAPHIC=NCAA The new graduation rates for
college athletic programs around the
nation were released today by the NCAA.
For the first time - these
numbers take into consideration
transfers students and do not penalize
schools when students leave.
The new numbers are supposed to
give a truer sense of what's taking
place and they show dramatic increases
in all sports at Tech and UVa.
For example, the football
graduation numbers went up by more than
10 points at both schools.

Brand made those comments
Saturday while in Salem attending the
Stagg Bowl.
Nothing backs up his number more
than the Virginia Tech basketball team
- under the old way of counting the
Tech men's team had a graduation rate
of 42 percent, now Tech's rate is 88
percent - more than doubling it.
And how about Radford University
- the Highlanders' men's basketball
team and 14 other varsity sports now
have a perfect 100 percent graduation
rate.
