GRAPHIC=Iraq Homecoming Dozens of national guard soldiers
from our area are coming home in time
for Christmas.
Members of the *Eleven-73rd
Transportation Company* are scheduled
to return home later today from Iraq.
46-soldiers from Rocky Mount are
set to arrive at four p-m at the town's
National Guard Armory.
Another 20 from Roanoke are set
to be back in town around five.

Alleghany Highlands today.
He's scheduled to start in
Martinsville, where efforts are
underway to form a new college.
Then it's on to Danville, where
Warner is expected to seek support for
his budget proposals.

to dog owners whose pets injure or
kill.
State lawmakers say the move was
motivated by the March death of Dorothy
Sullivan.

mauled by three roaming pit bulls
outside her Fredericksburg area home.
And several Danville pit bulls
have been involved in attacks this
year.
Fatal dog attacks are not

is introducing a law that would add a
provision to state law making fatal
attacks a felony.

residents.

Crews worked overnight to repair
two water main breaks, one on Lester
Avenue, the other on Ruston Street.
Residents in that neighborhood
say water was streaming down the road,
creating muddy conditions.
In addition, people say they were
without water for more than 24-hours,
something they've had to endure before.
Service was restored by 10
yesterday morning, and workers
completed their cleanup efforts a short
time later.

than a week away.
But some people might not have
presents under the tree without
volunteers trying to be Santa to as
many as they can.

volunteers are participating in the Be
a Santa for a Senior program.
Their goal... to deliver presents
to nearly one-thousand seniors
throughout the Roanoke
Many of those chosen for the
program were selected by church groups
and area social services departments.
The seniors filled out a wish
list, and those were picked up at
Walmarts, and malls across the valley.
And after all the deliveries are
completed it's time to start thinking
about next years Christmas, which
organizers hope will benefit twice as
many seniors.
