Generals race gets underway today.
A Lynchburg precinct is one of
nine where votes will be counted
manually during today's recount.
Ink in some of the pens voters
used at Linkhorne Middle School didn't
register in the vote- tabulator machine
on election night.
The other eight precincts are in
Gloucester County.

hoped to have votes re-run in 156-
precincts.
They argue it won't be a true
recount if election officials simply

sometimes dangerous year in Iraq,
Dozens of local National Guard Troops
are safe at home.

arrived home last night at armories in
Roanoke and Rocky Mount.
The soldiers provided security for
convoy's and although it was dangerous

GRAPHIC=Appalachian Power A public hearing has been
postponed indefinitely for a new
electrical substation in Eastern
Franklin County.

VO-NAT The planning commission recently
approved a special-use permit for the
project, but denied plans for the
specific site of a connecting line.
As a result, Appalachian Power
says it needs more time to find a
better location.
This is the second bump in the
road for the project.
The commission rejected
Appalachian Power's ORIGINAL proposal
in July, saying the site was too
visible.

are hoping to accommodate more people.

It's projected that 10-thousand
new residents will move there each
decade.
Tonight county officials held a
public hearing about potential growth
in the villages of Elliston and
Lafayette.
It's part of a six village
project that the Montgomery County
Planning Department has been working on
since 2004.
They
include...Elliston-Lafayette, Riner,
Prices Fork, Shawsville, Belview and
Plum Creek.
The final step for folks in
Elliston and Lafayette is a vote to
adopt the villages into the county's
comprehensive plan.
That decision will come after the
first of the year.
