GRAPHIC=NCAA The NCAA released the new

graduation rates for college athletic
programs around the nation.

This year these numbers take into
consideration transfer students, and do
not penalize schools when students
leave.

The new system is supposed to
give a truer sense of what's taking
place.

They show dramatic increases in all
sports at Tech and UVa.

For example, the football
graduation numbers went up by more than
10 points at both schools.

Brand made those comments
Saturday while in Salem attending the
Stagg Bowl.

Nothing backs up his number more
than the Virginia Tech basketball team.

Under the old way of counting, the
Tech men's team had a graduation rate
of 42 percent, now Tech's rate is 88
percent - more than doubling it.

And as for Radford University -
the Highlanders' men's basketball team
and 14 other varsity sports now have a
perfect 100 percent graduation rate.
