Administration activated a new list of
acceptable carry-ons today which
includes nail clippers, small scissors
and tools, cigar cutters, and safety
razors.

With the new allowances comes
more searches.

Security screeners will now
conduct more random searches,
pat-downs, and shoe removals.

While the changes may affect wait
times at bigger airports,
representatives with the Roanoke
Regional Airport say the security
changes will most likely go unnoticed

at smaller airports across the nation.

Altavista this morning, damaging
apartments and several businesses.

And investigators say it was all
from a discarded cigarette.

departments responded to a building at
the intersection of Broad and Main.

The fire marshal says one person
in an upstairs apartment failed to

dispose of his cigarette properly.

That man was treated for minor
smoke inhalation.

level were heavily damaged by water and

No word tonight on the extent of
damage to the four upstairs apartment
units, but the whole building has been
temporarily condemned.

being blamed for an early morning fire
that displaced a Vinton family.

firefighters arrived on North Blair
Street.

They were able to bring the blaze
under control in a little more than
half an hour.

The family of four and their
animals escaped without injury, but the

for what her dogs did.

acres of national forest in Virginia
under greater protection from
development.

The petition asks that the 2001
federal regulation that protected these
roadless areas to be restored.

The Bush administration repealed
the regulation in May and implemented a

Warner's petition is the first in
the nation to be filed.

public safety building has just about

Built in 1964 -the building has seen a
metamorphosis. Over the years it grown
with new additions and acquisitions.

While some areas are closer to
completion than others- the building is
beginning to take shape.

The first milestone happened in April
when the new communication center got
off the ground, but it hasn't been an
easy process.

Dungy was found dead in his Tampa-area

the Keydets on the Football Field. Jim
Reid has been named the Head Coach in
Lexington. He comes to V-M-I from
Bucknell where he was an assistant
Coach last season.

Commonwealth. He was the Head coach at
Richmond for 9 seasons. He led the
Spiders from 1995 to 2-thousand and 3
winning 2 Atlantic Ten Championships.
Reid has also been a head coach at
Massachusetts.

Reid has agreed to a 5 year
contract and becomes the 29th Head
Football Coach at V-M-I. He replaces
Cal McCombs and takes over a team that
went 3 and 8 last season. Their will
be a press conference to introduce Reid
after the Holidays.

Charlottesville isn't getting any
easier as the season goes along. Today
he lost another player. Donte Minter
is leaving the program for personal
reasons and is not expected to return.
This leaves the Cavaliers with just 8
scholarship players, without walk-ons
the Wahoos couldn't scrimmage.

Minter is a junior and hadn't
played yet this season.

Last Season was a struggling for

Rhode Island's state house
Christmas tree is now just a skeleton
of its former self.

So what happened?

Statehouse employees say they
went a little too far trying to comply
with strict fire codes enacted after a
fatal night club blaze a couple of
years ago.

They first dried the tree
with commercial fans, then doused it in
a flame-retardent chemical.

Today, crews were busy
putting up a replacement tree.

The governor says he'll look into
