home leaving them homeless for the
holidays.

This Morning The fire broke out around 2:30 in
the 200 block of North Blair Street.

A firefighter on the scene says
the family awoke to fire in their
bedroom coming from behind their
dresser.

There was heavy fire damage on
the first floor, and extended to the
second.

All four people escaped without
injuries.

The cause of the fire has not
been determined.

The family is working with the
Red Cross for assistance.

Republican Bob McDonnell has been
certified the winner in the attorney
general's race.

McDonnell said he felt relieved
as he left the recount court with his
wife.

The election remains the closest
in Virginia history.

Once all the numbers were added,
McDonnell's lead over Creigh Deeds grew

Last night, Several hundred
people turned out for the Republican
mass meeting at EC Glass High School.

The candidates were Robert
Garber and Mike Harrington.

In the end, Harrington got the
nomination. He told us Bryant
supporters won't be disappointed by his
candidacy.

It was a much smaller crowd at
the Democrat mass meeting, mainly
because Shannon Valentine was the only
one seeking the nomination.

She says if elected she will

work with Democrats and Republicans.

The election is on January 10th
so the candidates have just eighteen
days to campaign.

Chuck Robb now has a post in the *Bush*
Administration.

The White House says Robb
will be appointed to a two-year term on
the President's Foreign Intelligence
Advisory Board.

Robb will be responsible for
advising the President on the quality
and adequacy of intelligence efforts
and will contribute to the board's
highly classified reports.

The 66-year old Virginian
served on the Senate Intelligence
Committee, until he was defeated by
George Allen in 2000.

completed by the parent company of
Lewis-Gale Medical Center to purchase
Lewis-Gale Clinic's outpatient surgery
center.

As part of the process, HCA
employed most of the clinic's
physicians and staff in October.

surgery center finalizes the
negotiations.

The center will now be called the
Blue Ridge Outpatient Surgery center.

HCA officials say this is step
toward building a fully integrated
array of outpatient services in the

surgeries a day.

HCA says patients should
NOT notice any change in care.

popping up all over the New River
Valley.

These red and white Christmas
signs are the hottest new item in the
area.

They were dreamed up by Roanoke
resident Norma King and created with
the help of her friend, Radford
resident Lew Sheckler.

Within three days, they had
orders for 700 signs.


The orders are still coming in,
but the signs are all gone.

Yesterday, the Roanoke Planning
Commission members approved a rezoning
request, sending the issue on to city
council.

complained that the project has been

put on a fast track without proper
review, and that officials haven't
fully addressed their concerns about
parking, traffic and noise.

life.

The fire started just around
11:AM yesterday on Three Oaks Road.

When crews arrived they found
this two-story log home collapsing.

As flames raced through the
structure - firefighters got word that
one-person was unaccounted for.

Investigators say the found what
looks like human remains, but positive

identification hasn't been made.

Neighbors say it was the home of
former Franklin County treasurer Doris
Brown.
