into the Valley Bank on Church Avenue
around four o-clock and demanded money.

This is a surveillance photo
of the suspect. Police say he got away
with an undisclosed amount of cash.

No one was hurt in the
robbery.

Roanoke County store employee last
night was apparently on a valley-wide
crime spree.

Last Night Police say 45-year-old Bernard
Taylor stole a ring from the JC-Penney
store at Tanglewood Mall.

Police and an ambulance were
called to the parking lot after a store
employee chased the suspect to his car.

The employee was dragged a short
distance by a light colored Lexus and
was taken to the hospital with non-life
threatening injuries.

But Police say Taylor's crime
spree actually began yesterday
afternoon with a stolen credit card.

Later that night, he was chased
from Penney's.

Police say the spree continued
about an hour later with an attempted
hold-up at Diva's House of Hair at
Lamplighter Mall in Roanoke.

Taylor then allegedly robbed the

residents of a home on Raymond Avenue.

Taylor was caught when his Lexus
crashed on Lewiston Road while being
chased by Roanoke police.

stealing 400 pounds of explosives in
New Mexico.

The men, whose names were not
immediately released, all face federal
charges.

The explosives were reported stolen
Sunday from the storage depot of an
engineering firm in Albequerque.

Investigators have said there is no
evidence to suggest a link to
terrorism.

to scale back on the number of U-S
troops in Iraq.

VO-NAT Two combat brigades -- a total of

7-thousand troops -- have had their
orders to Iraq canceled.

It's a modest initial step toward
turning over fighting to the Iraqis and
cutting the number of U-S troops to
100-thousand by next fall's
congressional elections.

One Brigade will remain in
Kansas. The other is in Kuwait and
will stay there.

Iraq, a Franklin County soldier was
laid to rest today.

The family of Jared Kubasak
described him as a devoted and loved
son, a dedicated soldier who believed
in the U-S Army.

Kubasak was killed December 12th
while on patrol in Baghdad. An
improvised explosive device detonated
near his Bradley Fighting Vehicle.

A 1999 Graduate of Franklin
County High School, he was remembered
as a young man who found himself in the
army, and whose death is a crushing
loss for those who knew him.

laid to rest in Roanoke County this
afternoon.

Jack Anderson was buried today at
the Ferguson Family Cemetery.

self-proclaimed "Morman muckraker"
uncovered illegal political schemes,
and shed light on security lapses

Anderson's daughter says her

flight from Dallas.

Witnesses said Day got drunk and
harassed flight attendants and other

with a flight crew and is due back in
court in March.

Day was arrested last year for
allegedly locking a woman in the
bathroom of his tour bus, after she
rejected his sexual advances.

February Actor Brad Renfro has gotten busted in
an L-A-P-D sting operation.

They say he tried to buy heroin from an
undercover police officer.

The 23-year-old former child star was
booked- -along with 14 others- -for
investigation of felony attempt to
possess heroin.

Despite the presence of several
newspaper, radio and TV reporters
covering the operation, buyers were
apparently undeterred from approaching
police.

many movie theaters. But the exclusive
universe of the real Japanese geisha is
fast vanishing.

In an attempt to keep their tradition
alive, they are willing to let tourists
learn how to be a Geisha ...if only for

Becoming geisha for a day starts with a
wig fitting painfully wired, it weighs
as much as a small dog

Then a thorough white shellacking, to
give me the sultry alabaster complexion
of a medieval charmer

Finally, I'm cinched mercilessly into a
black silk kimono. And presto - I am
now "Little Plum," the geisha.

A transformation so complete, I
scarcely recognize myself.

This ten-thousand-dollar ensemble may
look fabulous, but walking?
Fugedaboutit!

leap second will be inserted in the
world's clocks just before 7 p-m
Eastern time on New Year's Eve.

Leap seconds are occasionally needed
to keep the clocks and the Earth in
synch.

The last leap second occurred seven
