WHY IS itTHAT WITH SO MUCH TO CHOOSE
FROM WHEN BUYING A GIFT ...
WE SO OFTEN GET IT WRONG?
LET'S FACE IT, SOME GIFTS ARE THE WRONG
COLOUR, SOME ARE THE WRONG SMELL...
OTHER ARE JUST PLAIN WRONG
SO INSTEAD OF PUTTING AN ILL-CHOSEN
GIFT AT THE BACK OF THE CUPBOARD, NEVER
TO
BE SEEN AGAIN
MANY PEOPLE SIMPLY GIVE THEM TO SOMEONE
ELSE
... A SNEAKY LITTLE RITUAL CALLED
'RE-GIFTING'
CHARLES MOSELY, A BRITISH ETIQUETTE
EXPERT, SAYS A LOT OF PEOPLE DO IT...
BUT
IT'S JUST NOT RIGHT
---SOT---
It is considered bad form. But of
course, like all social errors, only if
you
get caught. Don't get caught!
MOSELY SAYS IF YOU INSIST ON
RE-GIFTING... AT LEAST DO IT CLEVERLY
---SOT---
It's absolutely fatal - giving the same
gift back to someone who gave it to you
in the first place.
SAVVY 'RE-GIFTERS' KNOW TO KEEP THEIR
'GIFTING CIRCLES' WIDELY SEPARATED...
BY SENDING UNWANTED GIFTS OUT OF

from
people who dont know you.

OTHERS CALL IT RUDE..
--SOT---
would you give on a gift? No.
Absolutely. No, if it's been given to
me. They
think I like it. I am not putting out
or using it but I wouldn't give it
away.
BUT PRETENDING YOU LIKE THE GIFT IN THE
FIRST PLACE IS ALL PART OF THE PROBLEM,
SAYS CHARLES MOSELY
---SOT---
All social life if based, not on a lie,
but on a 'lets pretend'. I pretend that
I love your gift. It's not I hate it,
but frankly I thougth it was a bit
boring. But I still come up to you, and
say, oh so sweet of you, just what i
wanted.
BUT FAKE KISSES AND FALSE THANKS RARELY
HELP WHEN KNOW YOU'VE RECEIVED A SECOND
HAND PRESENT
UNLIKE THESE BRAND-NEW GOODIES ... THE
RECYCLED GIFT HAS TELL-TELL SIGNS; LIKE
WELL-WORN WRAPPING OR EXTRA-CRUMPLED
TISSUE PAPER
---SOT---
You can tell, spot them a mile away.
Like what? Books, beauty products,
soaps,
whatelse? Actually I got a used T-shirt
once. How did you know? Was it
wellworn? It had hair on it! That's a
terrible gift.
SOME GIFTS, IT SEEMS, ARE IN BAD TASTE
NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES YOU PASS THEM
ON OR REWRAP THEM.
