Police say 25-year-old Leman
Ransome of Roanoke was shot twice
before a suspect in a blue Oldsmobile

before the incident.

preparing for the worst for more than a
year, and are trying to diversify
Danville's economy.

Dan River confirmed the sale to
GHCL Monday.

The Indian company bought 90% of
Dan River's outstanding shares of stock
for $17.5 million.

As part of the deal, the company
will also take over Dan River's $36
million debt.

Dan River appeared to be back in
business after falling on some hard
times.

VO-NAT The company first made yarn and


fabric in Danville in 1883.

By the 1970's it was one of the
largest employers in Virginia, with
more than 10-thousand workers.

But as textile manufacturing
began to suffer from foreign
competition, Dan River closed plants,
and cut jobs.


By March of last year it was in
Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

It came out of bankruptcy
protection last February, but put its
apparel division on the market.

By then it was employing 12- to-
16- hundred people in Danville.

after a luxury bus crashed into a
tanker truck carrying chemicals.

victims' burned bodies.

trying to figure out what caused the
death of 26 year old Mindy Damron
Dickerson a year ago.

Dickerson was found in late
January on her bed with scratches to

FIREFIGHTERS AND ISSUED A DISASTER

IT'S BEEN A WARM WINTER SO FAR FOR MUCH
OF THE SOUTHWEST AND THE HEAT,

COMBINED WITH LOW HUMIDITY, HAS MADE
IDEAL CONDITIONS FOR FIRES TO ERUPT.
