suspicious death.

Officers responded to this home in
the 24-hundred block of Staunton Avenue
late yesterday afternoon.
When they arrived, they found a
unidentified man in the backyard.
Two children who lived at the house
initially spotted the body from an
upstairs bedroom window.
Witnesses say it appeared the man had
been dead several days.

Roanoke Valley bank's been robbed.
This time it was a bank in Salem.

A man in his mid-twenties, went
into the bank of Floyd at Spartan
Square at about 5:30 yesterday evening.
Police say the man told the
teller he had a weapon and demanded
money. The suspect wore blue jeans
and a red flannel shirt and drove a
light blue or silver vehicle.
No one was hurt and police won't
say how much the robber made off with.

claimed the life of a man and sent
three others to the hospital last
night.
21 year old Joshua Lee Jones of
New Castle was driving on Route 42
around midnight when he hit a deer and
lost control of his car.
He was pronounced dead at the
scene.
Three passengers were transported
to the hospital.

GRAPHIC=Murder Investigation After 18 years, Roanoke Police
have made a break in a murder case.

April 1987 In 1987, Roanoke Police found
87-year-old Bertha Sommardahl dead.
Police say someone went through
the back window of Sommardahl's
apartment and stabbed her.
18 years later, police now have
someone in custody.
But that person has not been
charged with the fatal stabbing.
According to the Associated
Press, a D-N-A "cold hit" led police to
a particular person.
A "cold hit" means evidence such
as blood or hair matches D-N-A
registered in the state's D-N-A from
convicted felons.

without pay for elbowing Mike Miller in
the throat.

Bryant was called for a flagrant
foul and was unapologetic following the
game.
He had been gashed over his left

claimed the life of a man and sent
three others to the hospital last
night.
21 year old Joshua Lee Jones of
New Castle was driving on Route 42
around midnight when he hit a deer and
lost control of his car.
He was pronounced dead at the
scene.
Three passengers were transported
to the hospital.

accident yesterday in Roanoke, that
seriosly injured a woman.

Ethel Clark of Blue Ridge was
driving on Orange Avenue in Roanoke
around 12:30 yesterday afternoon when a
utility trailer broke free from a van
and hit her car.
Parts of the trailer broke
through her windshield and hit Clark.

Hospital and is currently in serious
condition.

Enchanted Eve is an alcohol free
event costing nine dollars for adults
and five for kids.
Midnight on the Market has been
moved to Roanoke's Century Plaza --
across from Fire Station number one on
First Street.
Alcohol will be served -- costs
ten dollars.
Ring in the New Year the way it's
done all over the world at the Inn at
Virginia Tech tonight.
There'll be international food
and music all night.
