Roanoke neighborhood has now been
declared a homicide.

Friday -- in the backyard of a house on
Staunton Avenue.

It was identified as 18-year-old
Calvin Mack.

Police say someone shot Mack
multiple times.

well for some residents at one Roanoke
apartment.

Fire and rescue crews responded
to a fire in the one-hundred block of
18th Street around four yesterday.

They found heavy smoke and fire,
but quickly got the blaze under
control.

Three people escaped the
apartment without injuries.

The Red Cross has been contacted
to offer the family assistance.

Though the fire was contained to
the bedroom, damages are estimated at
about 100-thousand dollars.

yesterday morning after State Police
say he wrecked his pick-up truck on
Saturday.

Hillsville Volunteer Fire Dept. Police say 55-year-old Danny
Castle Midkiff was found dead inside
his truck around 10 o'clock.

Troopers say Midkiff ran off the
left side of Route 52 near Fancy Gap
and struck a tree.

The crash killed him instantly.

Midkiff's truck wasn't spotted
until Sunday morning.

Police say he was NOT wearing a
seat belt.

good percentage of shamik acid.
SHAKIMIK ACID IS THE MAIN INGREDIENT OF
TAMIFLU, ITS NOW SUPPLIED BY JUST ONE
COUNTRY. In china they make it from the
star anise, its a small bush THERE IS
NOT NEARLY ENOUGH TO GO AROUND, SO
THATS WHY BIOLYSE TURNED ITS ATTENTION
TO THE NEEDLES FOUND ON EVERGREENS,
WIDELY AVAILABLE ACROSS CANADA. Here
what you have is something that is
highly concentrated in pine needles and
when you can extract that you can use
it to make tamiflu so this is a
critical early step in making tamiflu
is to have this shakimik acid. The
company expects to recycle about half a
million christmas trees from the
toronto and halton areas, providing
them with enough shikimik acid for
medication for five million people.
WHEN THEY RUN OUT OF RECYCLED TREES,
THEY'LL HARVEST. BIOLYSE SAYS WITH AN
ORGANIZED EFFORT BY ALL THE PROVINCES
THERE WOULD BE ENOUGH RESOURCES TO
DEFEND AGAINST THE VIRUS. BUT DR. LOW
CAUTIONS TAMIFLU ISN'T THE MAGIC PILL
PEOPLE WOULD LIKE TO THINK IT IS. It

works great for the human influenza but
probably less than ideal for avian
influenza and we need new products. BUT
FOR NOW AT LEAST, IT SEEMS TO BE THE
BEST BET. We would all like to think we
have two boxes of this medicine in our
cabinet just as a protective measure.
KEIKEN SAYS IF HER LITTLE LAB CAN GET
THROUGH ALL THE RED TAPE, IN A COUNTRY
FILLED WITH TREES... THERE COULD BE
SOME PROTECTION FROM THE AVIAN FLU.

well for some residents at one Roanoke
apartment.

to a fire in the one-hundred block of
18th Street around four o'clock
yesterday.

They found heavy smoke and fire,
but quickly got the blaze under
control.

Three people escaped the
apartment without injuries.

Though the fire was contained to
the bedroom, damages are estimated at

Troopers say Midkiff ran off of

Midkiff's truck wasn't spotted
until Sunday morning.

ENG#1 A body found last week in a

Roanoke neighborhood has now been
declared a homicide.

Some children discovered the body
Friday -- in the backyard of a house on
Staunton Avenue.

It was identified as 18-year-old
Calvin Mack.

Police say someone shot Mack
multiple times.

ENG#2 Michelle and Michael Folden are

the proud parents of the Roanoke
Valley's first baby born in 2006.

Folden* was born at 1:08 A-M at Roanoke
Community Hospital.

Weighing in at about six pounds
and 13 ounces, Lily's special birthday
is just one of many in her family --
she's child number eight for the
Folden's.

ENG#3 The Virginia Tech Hokies are an 8

point favorite over Louisville in the
Gator Bowl.

The Hokies are hoping that means
many fond memories of this game in the
years to come and a season that
finishes at 11 and 2.

The Hokies slipped in the
Atlantic Coast Conference championship
game against Florida State while the
Cardinals slipped

twice during the season -- to West
Virginia and South Florida.

Both teams missed out on expected
B-C-S bids with the losses.
