Rescuers punched a hole into the mine

Nothing's been heard from them

At daybreak, the news was disappointing
or the families of the 13 miners

trapped some 260 feet below the ground.

Safety and rescue officials said their
first test of the air quality in

the mine...showed carbon monoxide
exceeding levels that can sustain life.

sot: Ben Hatfield/CEO International

Coal Group

"Common school of thought might be is

that they would try to find an are

that was breathable that had not yet
been contaminated by the smoke and

carbon monoxide and try to maintain
that environment."

A robotic camera and air monitoring
device was lowered this morning

through a 6 inch hole in the area where
the miners are believed to be

trapped.

sot: Hatfield again

"The visual search was inconclusive, no
barricades or survivors were

seen but there was no evidence of
explosion damage to the installed

equipment."

Monday's blast knocked out all
communication ... the miners did have
air

purifying equipment with them, but no
oxygen tanks.

Nick Helm's father is one of the
trapped men.

sot: Nick Helms/Son of trapped Miner

"I'm sure they found a way to stay
alive."

(Standup bridge)

The most recent inspection of the Sago
mine from October to December

resulted in 46 violations. Inspectors
listed 18 of those as serious and

substantial.

Yet this coal miner, whose relative is
trapped, is not surprised.

sot: Rocky Police/Family Member Trapped

"when you think about....I don't think
its that serious."

In this mining community of about 6000
people, it seems everyone knows

someone, who has been affected by this
accident.

sot: Suzette Huffman/EMS Worker

"Everybody sticks together and it's
very tight here."

And while the air quality test was
described as very discouraging,

officials aren't ready to give up hope.

The area where the miners could

be... is said to be fairly large... and
they say there's still a

possibility of finding them alive.

GRAPHIC=VICK Five personal foul penalties and

Jimmy Williams' ejection paled in
comparison to Marcus Vick's antics in
the second quarter.

Vick was caught on camera
stomping or stepping on the calf of
Louisville all- American Elvis
Dumer-vil.

The officials didn't see it, but
the cameras caught it.

After the game Vick said it was
an accident.

Vick said that Dumer-vil did
accept his appology.

Whether it was accidental or
intentional, Tech quarterback
coach Kevin Rogers called the play an
embarrasment.

Dumer-vil said it shows Vick has
no character.

Louisville coach Bobby Petrino
said it was unfortunate because kids at
home saw it.
