elderly woman, 46 year old Thomas Lee
Crowder, Junior of Roanoke has been
charged with the crime.

The 87 year old had been

mixed emotions after the man suspected
of murdering their daughter kills
himself.

accused of raping and killing Stephanie
Bennett in Raleigh in 2002.

Central Prison on Monday.

Planten was arrested in October,
nearly three-years after the murder,
when a DNA sample matched a specimen
from the crime scene.


His sudden death leaves a lot of

shooting of a Lansing woman.

The gun used in that murder was
reportedly found in Planten's

investigation, two former Radford
Sheriffs will NOT face charges.

A special prosecutor yesterday
cleared Allen Taylor and Terry Alley of
any wrong doing.

The investigation dealt with
missing military surplus equipment at
the sheriff's office.

The equipment was stored at
Taylor's home, even though he'd been
out of office for nearly two years.

Special prosecutor Jerry Wolfe
says while all of these actions were
very unprofessional, unethical and
unwise, there is insufficient evidence
to prove that the actions of either one
of the individuals being investigated
were done with criminal intent.

pleading to a lesser charge in an
accident that killed his young son.

VO-NAT Glovern Ray Phipps was facing

charges of involuntary manslaughter and
driving under the influence in
connection to an accident on Thompson
Memorial Boulevard.

Phipps' 5-year-old son, Ryan died
the next day from injuries suffered in
the crash.

The manslaughter charges were
dropped and the DUI was reduced to a
misdemeanor after the child's mother
requested leniency.

Phipps received a 12-month jail
sentence and will have to serve
90-days.

He also received a fine and
suspended license.

Though management at the
Christiansburg Bluff Apartments would
not comment, the letter said they would
not be offering her another place to
live there due to her actions.

A hair salon in Salem is also
being forced to move, after fire caused
extensive damage there Monday night.

The owner of Saint Pierre Salon
Academy and Spa doubts she will be able
to rebuild in the current location, but
Cynthia St. Pierre says she hopes to
relocate her staff as early as today.

Yesterday afternoon, Salem
investigators were still working to
pinpoint the cause of the blaze, but
said they definitely think this was an
accidental fire.
