Relatives say the messages make it
clear the men were not suffering-

One woman whose father was among
the dead says the dying miners
described it as "going to sleep."

Today black ribbons hang on doors-
signs asking people not to forget are
in windows and flags are at half staff
ordered so by the Governor-

The mining company has set up a two
million dollar support fund- and
congress is planning a hearing into the

January 1996 < nature started a party of her own,
blanketing much of the east in a sea of

white.

Snow started on a Saturday the
6th and lasted the entire first weekend
of January. In just 2 days, 2 to 4 feet
of snow piled up, in what's coined "The
Blizzard of 96".

State after state set new 24-hour
snowfall records. In fact, as much as
4-feet of snow fell at Snowshoe Ski
Resort in West Virginia.

As the storm moved through, the
winds picked up, gusting 25-35mph at
times, creating 4 to 10 foot snow
drifts. Traveling was nearly
impossible. The national guard was
called in, as emergency vehicles needed
rescuing of their own.

Throughout the east, 154 people
died during the winter storm. But the
near record warmth that followed proved
to be almost as devastating as the snow
itself.

Heavy rainfall, on top of 2 feet
of melting snow, created a massive
runoff not seen in years. The worst
areas effected were the mountainous
terrain, where valleys turned into
funnels.>>

Keydets vs Buccaneers The Noon start was for a Kids Day
and they were plenty loud.

One Person who missed out on the
noise was Duggar Baucom who was not on
the sidelines due to a routine Medical
Procedure this week. Assistant Daniel
Willis took over the coaching duties.

This one was close throughout.
Reggie Williams with the pretty

fadeaway jump shot, he had 19 points
for the game and V-M-I led by 2 at
halftime.

After the break Chavis Holmes
started to heat up, he would make the
nice move to the basket and score to
put the Keydets up by 4.

But then Chris Moore took over
for Charleston Southern and he did it
from deep, a three pointer from the
left side put the Buccaneers in the
lead.

Moore not done he was 7 for 9
from behind the arc and scored 23
points to lead all scorers.

*CG final Charleston Southern V-M-I responded with Travis Holmes who 76 came off the bench to score a career VMI high 19 points, 2 coming on the 73 stickback, but not enough as V-M-I
falls 76 to 73 in their conference
opener.

The first test run subject for
the students was stem cell research.

The course culminated today with
a video conference discussion about
