emotions after the suspect hanged
himself while behind bars.

Monday afternoon- three months after he
was arrested. DNA evidence linked him
to the death of Franklin County native
Stephanie Bennett.

Bennett was found raped and
murdered in her Raleigh apartment in
2002.

Her parents thought they would
have chance to see Planten pay for his
crimes.

Evelyn Davis Bethel announced her
plans to run before supporters in city
council chambers.

Bethel is President of the
Historic Gainsboro Preservation
District.

has made a new "goal" for the new
year----to attract more fans.

The Vipers hoped three thousand
fans would come out for each game.. but
so far attendance has been half that.

So the team has reduced some
ticket prices by as much as three
dollars.

The Roanoke Civic Center will
also soon install cameras in the arena
and show the games on tv screens in the
concourse.

The Vipers are also putting
dollar off coupons on the back of soda
cans and bags of chips.

Tickets for adults now go from
9.50 to 12.50.

GRAPHIC=Lytton A man hunt in Montgomery County

yesterday ended with a late afternoon
arrest.

VO-NAT 26 year-old Jamie Wayne Lytton

was spotted in some tall grass outside
the Blacksburg town limits.
*CG locator Montgomery Co. Police searched a three- mile
radius using dogs and a state police
helicopter- and eventually found him.

Earlier in the day, a sheriff's
deputy tried to serve Lytton
misdemeanor warrants.

Authorities say that's when
Lytton backed over the deputy with a
stolen farm tractor and took off.

The deputy is doing okay but has
scrapes and bruises.

The 52- year- old spent five-

are busy this week cleaning up old
tires from one of the state's problem
site.

Explore employees were pulling
the last few tires from a creek bed
yesterday, while workers from a North
Carolina recycling company loaded
others onto a tractor- trailer.

They will remove about three
thousand tires from the property
located just south of the Blue Ridge
Parkway.

Explore staff, inmates from the
county jail, and additional volunteers
have helped to collect the tires for
pick-up.

Funding from the Virginia
Department of Environmental Quality
will pay for their removal.
