GRAPHIC= Good afternoon everybody and

welcome to the Friday ticker as you

heard at the top of the newscast -
Marcus Vick's tumulutoustumultuous
career at Virginia Tech is over.

This afternoon just before five
o'clock a statement was released at
Virginia Tech from President Charles
Stegar saying that Vick was done.

Now, this is all come about in
the last 30 minus or so, so let's take
a deep breath and attempt to put this
in some type of perspective.

Frank Beamer left Blacksburg
today after lunch in a private plane
headed for the Newport News, Suffolk
area to meet with the Vick family.

This Season While Beamer was on his way to :00 the meeting, word began to surface that
Vick had been issued two traffic
summons during the Holiday break.

On December 17th - the day most
of the Tech players took part in the
Gator Bowl Media day on campus - Vick
was arrested that morning in Hampton
and charged with speeding and with
driving with a suspended license.

While the arrest took place
December 17th it was not filed until
yesterday in Hampton General district
court.

Meanwhile, unaware of these
violations, this afternoon Tech issued
a statement saying that Beamer,
President Charles Stegar and athletic
director Jim Weaver would hold a joint
news conference tomorrow at 11am to
discuss the Gator Bowl incident.

Obviously, the new developments
took precedence.

The question that remain are did
the coaches know about the violations
before the bowl game, and were they
considered just traffic violations
instead of the last straw - the obvious
view President Stegar has taken.

The news conference for tomorrow
is still on for tomorrow at 11.

welcome to the end of the wrok week
ticker.

The wildcard weekend of playoff
games in the NFL is set for tomorrow at
Sunday.

One of the big games of the
weekend for local fans other than the
Redskins involves Tiki Barber and the
Giants hosting the Carolina Panthers.

For Tiki it will be a reunion of
sorts - as he goes against Panthers'
head coach John Fox - who during the
early part of Tiki's career was the
Giants defensive coordinator.

But if you don't make the
playoffs - you have to often get a new
coach.

The Minnesota Vikings did just

that today as they hired Brad Childress
to replace the fired Mike Tice.

Childress takes over a club that
recently finished a 9-and-7. He leaves
Philadelphia where he was the Eagles'
offensive coordinator.

He has never been a head coach.
