been kicked off the Virginia Tech
football team.. .the news coming just
about an hour ago.

A statement from Tech
President Chargles Steger says Vick's
dismissal was due to the cumulative
effect of legal infractions and
unsportsmanlike play.

includes a message from coach Frank
Beamer saying he's disappointed the
situation did not have a better ending.
"We wanted what's best for this
football team and Marcus," Beamer said.

Marcus Vick has a court date in
Hampton Virginia later this month for
two new traffic violations.

It happened December 17, BEFORE
the Gator Bowl, but it wasn't reported
on the state's website until yesterday.

OUTQ=problems with the DMV << Hampton Police pulled Marcus Vick

over in mid-december at around 2 or 3
in the morning for going 38 in a 25.

They soon discovered he was
driving on a suspended license.

Police say Vick was given a
summons after a friend in the vehicle
offered to drive home.

We do not know why or when his
license was suspended, it could be for
a number of reasons... maybe a ticket
in another Virginia County or problems

All of this happened very fast
this afternoon - and it has certainly
been a whirlwind day for all involved
including Frank Beamer. Beamer left
Blacksburg after the noon hour today
and headed to the eastern part of the
state to meet with the Vick family this
afternoon and to also be part of an
event tonight with Michael Vick in

Hampton.

This Season While Beamer was on his way to :00 the meeting, word began to surface that
Vick had been issued the two traffic
summons that Rachel referred tp just a
moment ago.

On December 17th - the day most
of the Tech players took part in the
Gator Bowl Media day on campus - Vick
got a speeding ticket and a summons for
driving with a suspended license.

Meanwhile, apparently unaware of

these new violations, this afternoon
Tech issued a statement saying that
Beamer, President Charles Steger and
athletic director Jim Weaver would hold
a joint news conference tomorrow at
11am. The purpose of that
newsconference originally was to
discuss the Gator Bowl incident.

Obviously, the new developments
then took precedence.

mayor to resign in the face of federal
criminal charges.

Carl Hutcherson was indicted last
month on charges of fraud, obstruction
of justice and lying to federal
authorities.

He has since said he'll stay on as
mayor through the end of his term this
year.

But a SurveyUSA poll conducted for
News7 last night shows 68 percent favor
him resigning, while just 28 percent
think he should stay on.

Whites strongly supported
resignation, while more than 60 percent
of blacks did not.

The poll has a margin of error of
4-point-2 percent.

reconstruction team has determined that
excessive speed was "the major
contributing cause" of a crash that
killed a Danville Police officer.

November Tenth after answering a call
and losing control of his cruiser on a
sharp curve on Halifax Road.

seat belt.

Danville Police say under
Virginia Law, Dickerson was not driving

Marcus Vick was kicked off the Virginia
Tech football team by university
president Charles Steger this
afternoon.

Vick already was under nationwide
scrutiny for his infamous play in the
Gator Bowl - but he likely would have
been allowed to stay on the team and

serve out a one or two game suspension
next season.

Court website that Vick had been issued
two traffic summons on Saturday,
December 17th, the day Tech held its
bowl media gathering for coaches and
players.

Besides getting a citation for
doing 38 in a 25 mile an hour zone he
was charged with driving with a
suspended license.

Despite being kicked off the team
- Vick has a lot of business to take
care of in coming days. The deadline
to enter the NFL draft is January 15th
and his court date in Hampton is set
for January 17th.
