Governor Mark Warner has ordered
the retesting of D-N-A evidence to
determine whther Coleman was actually
innocent.

being convicted of raping and killing
his sister-in-law in ten years earlier.
But questions about his guilt
have lingered.

school board meeting was properly
advertised.

university says it may be February

The main contractor, Turner
Construction, could be fined ten
thousand dollars a day for every
business day the project is NOT
finished past August first.

not hold its strategic planning retreat
at the Berry Hill Plantation in Halifax
County.

It would have cost taxpayers
about nine-thousand dollars.
The city manager said in a
statement the location had become a
divisive issue in the community.
Therefore, council will hold its

Lotto South.
Virginia Lottery officials say it
will be replaced a new game called "Win
for Life."
The new game pays winners one
thousand dollars a week for the
rest of their lives.
The first "Win For Life" drawing
will be held March 1st. Drawings for
that game will be held on Wednesday and
Saturday nights.

remain Secretary of Transportation.
Kaine says he wanted to appoint

running.

will be the second deputy.
He's an environmental scientist
who says he looks forward to working on
land- use issues.

Sheriff George McMillan will have to do
it on her own.

Failing that, he asked the court to

Yesterday Judge Samuel Wilson
denied THAT motion, stating that the

couple of holiday season bank
robberies.
John Louis Broadnax was arrested
for the robbery at Valley Bank on
Church Avenue last month.

robbing the Suntrust branch on
Williamson Road and the one on
Hershberger Road the week after

August 22 A *woman* who is said to have
committed three armed robberies last
Summer has admitted to one of them- and
is *expected* to own up to all three.
Mistie Dawn Montgomery approached
the
*CG locator Roanoke
July 5 drive-up window at a First Citizens
branch last July.
She passed the teller a note
declaring, "this is a hold-up," and
that she was armed, ordering Susan
Palmer to empty her cash drawer into an
envelope.
The teller complied and
Montgomery got away with more than
17-thousand dollars.
All but about 400 dollars was
later recovered, but no gun.

19-year old murder case was appointed a
public defender yesterday.
Thomas Lee Crowder acknowledged
he's the man named in the indictment
handed up Tuesday.

back in business after fire damaged the
salon earlier this week.

Salon have set up shop at Diamond's
Cutting Edge in the 2000 block of East
Main Street. A former St. Pierre
student offered the space.
Yesterday, employees were
restocking supplies and rescheduling
appointments, as the first customers
began to return.
Owner Cynthia St. Pierre says she
is grateful for the support of loyal
customers, employees and friends, and
says she hopes to secure a permanent
location soon.
