ONE OF JUDGE SAMUEL ALITO'S SUPREME

you still personally believe very
strongly that the Constitution does not
protect a right to an abortion?"

THE 55-YEAR OLD CONSERVATIVE WILL FACE
A LOT MORE TOUGH QUESTIONS OVER

THE COMING DAYS... AS SENATORS ASK HIM
ABOUT PAST OPINIONS HE'S ISSUED,

FROM THE BENCH.

Sen. Charles Grassley / R - IOWA:
"Judge Alito has a reputation for being
an exceptional and honest judge devoted
to the rule of law, and a man of
integrity."

Sen. Patrick Leahy / D - VERMONT: "the
challenge for Judge Alito in the course
of these hearings is to demonstrate
that he will protect the rights and
liberties of all Americans."

Meg Oliver / CBS NEWS: "there's a lot
at stake. Judge

Alito was nominated to replace Justice
Sandra Day O'Connor - a key swing vote
on a lot of controversial issues. If

he's confirmed -- Alito ..could.. tip
the balance of the Supreme Court on
some big issues, like abortion rights
-- and the President's power during
wartime."

Sen. Russell Feingold / D - WISCONSIN
(paraphrased): no one is guaranteed a
seat on the supreme court just because
they're nominated by the President.

Sen. John Cornyn / R - TEXAS: "if
qualifications, integrity,

fairness, and open-mindedness were all
that mattered in this process, you
would be confirmed unanimously.

DESPITE THE COMING FIGHT -- IT LOOKS
LIKE ALITO HAS THE VOTES TO BE

CONFIRMED TO THE BENCH. THE JUDICIARY

AT THE 2006 DETROIT AUTO SHOW IT LOOKS
LIKE ITS OUT WITH BIGGER IS

BETTER AND IN WITH SMALLER IS SMARTER.

KEEPING DRIVERS ON THE ROAD LONGER WITH

FEWER, EXPENSIVE VISITS TO THE

GAS STATION MAY MEAN 2006 IS THE SEASON
OF THE SMALL CAR. JEAN JENNINGS

IS EDITOR-IN-CHIEF OF AUTOMOBILE
MAGAZINE .

Sot - Jean Jennings, Automobile
Magazine

For the first time ever, big Giant
Americans who driving long distance

are saying Yeah, Ill buy a little car.

CHECK OUT HONDAS FIT. IT GETS 33 MILES
PER GALLON IN THE CITY AND 38

MILES PER GALLON ON THE HIGHWAY. THATS
CHANGE IN YOUR POCKET BUT WHAT

IF YOU DONT WANT TO COMPROMISE SIZE FOR
SAVINGS.

Nat Sot from GM

In short, GM is in the Hybrid game.

THE HYBRID GAME HAS MORE PLAYERS AND
MORE VARIETY THAN EVER. THE

COMBINATION GAS - BATTERY POWERED CARS
AND TRUCKS ARE IN HOT DEMAND AND

AUTOMAKERS KNOW IT. TAKE THE PRIUS,
TOYOTA SOLD 107,000 LAST YEAR MORE

THAN THEY EVER IMAGINED. AND THE BIG

NEWS OF THE DAY THE COMPANYS

TAKING THEIR HOTTEST SELLER THE CAMRY
HYBRID ALSO.

Standup - Jennifer Donelan

"So is this the beginning of the end
for the "gas guzzlers"...the

mammoth SUV's? Chevrolet says 'not so
fast.' This 2006 Tahoe runs on

both gasoline and ethanol which is 85%
corn."

NOW IF YOU WANT TO BYPASS THE GAS
STATION ALTOGETHERCHECK THESE TINY

TRUCKS AND COMPACT CARS CALLED GEMS.

Sot - Lawrence Oswald/CEO - Gem

Its a pure battery electric vehicle.

THEY GO 30 MILES BEFORE THEY HAVE TO BE
PLUGGED INTO ANY STANDARD WALL

OUTLET. IN JUST 6 HOURS YOURE BACK ON
THE ROAD JENNIFER DONELAN, CBS
