EDUCATION 7 ANIMATION Southside didn't pass with the State
Council of Higher Education.
In a report Tuesday, SCHEV said
building a proposed college is
Southside is not the BEST way, nor the
CHEAPEST way to solve the area's
economic woes.
Instead, the council suggests
communities individually offer
educational programs through
partnerships with existing colleges and
universities.

That's expected to create 175
jobs in the next two and a half years.
Director of Economic Development
in Radford, Basil Edwards says these
new jobs will help cut down on city's

lately.

water bottling plant in Western
Virginia will cost the area a number of
jobs.
Nestle Waters North America
announced earlier this week it would no
longer consider Botetourt or Alleghany
counties for spring sites or the plant.

of a house fire is underway in Franklin
County.

Monday On Monday, firefighters were
called to Tim and Gail Anderson's home.
By the time they got there, fire
had already spread through most of the
home.
Yesterday in the pouring rain,

GRAPHIC=Gay Marriage A proposal prohibiting gay
marriage is one step closer to making
its way on Virginia's ballot.
Yesterday, the House Privileges
and Elections Committee overwhelmingly
approved a constitutional amendment,
making it clear that marriage is a
union between a man and a woman.
The proposal passed
overwhelmingly in the General Assembly
last year.
Before the proposal can go on the
ballot, it must be approved in its
identical form in a succeeding session
after a House of Delegates election.
The state has already banned gay
marriage.

Many are now forced to look for a
