10 KMC 11-Calming Setup 1 vo News 7 Mornin' 4058 -- File Tape If you've driven through
Southeast Roanoke you know what we're
talking about.

The city narrowed the street more
than a year ago in an effort to slow
traffic down.

It's worked, but the project has
also created a lot of inconveniences
for drivers.

Traffic calming is getting a
better reception in the Grandin Village
area.

Many say it's now safer for
pedestrians to get to and from the
movie theater.

File Tape Roanoke officials hope the latest
target for traffic calming won't hit
the hurdles it has in other areas.

The project slowed traffic in
Southeast Roanoke, but it also created
some inconveniences.

Traffic calming now makes its debut
near Huff Lane Elementary in northwest
Roanoke.

After 18 hours of questioning, Judge
Alito has wrapped up his testimony.

Unlike previous days, yesterday
offered no real fireworks between Alito
and Democratic Senators.

Instead, he was asked to compare
himself to the justice he wants to
replace -- Sandra Day O'Connor, the
Court's swing vote.

ENG#1 Blacksburg town council has voted to

kill two beavers that have set up shop
on Toms Creek in Heritage Community
Park.

The animals have already built
three dams and a lodge and are causing
flooding problems around the creek.

Moving the animals is actually against
the law, so the town voted to trap and
euthanize them before they have babies.

Roanoke's latest traffic calming
project is getting mixed reviews.

The city is narrowing Huff Lane in

half by extending curbs and installing
traffic islands.

Some neighbors say it's now like
driving through an obstacle course.
Others say they can already tell the
project is making a difference.
