this evening, one in Williamsburg, and
another in Richmond.

Officials hope to get most of the
power back on by tomorrow night.
But, they say it may not be until

his vehicle crashed into a vacant
building.

It happened earlier tonight in
the nine-hundred block of Blue Ridge
Avenue in Bedford.
Authorities say the driver
crashed his vehicle into an empty
building that was once a car lot.
A special task force came in to
build support so the lot wouldn't
collapse.
The driver was taken to Bedford
Memorial Hospital with non-life
threatening injuries.
The cause of the crash is under
investigation.

missing woman.

55-year-old Nancy Motes Wingfield
was reported missing Thursday. She
was last seen at her Collinsville home
January Second.
Her family says she's known for
leaving the area for a few days, but
never this long.
Wingfield is five-foot-two,
weighs 120-pounds and has bleach blonde
hair.

investigating an armed robbery tonight.

Lakeside Drive.
Police say a man walked into the
store, showed a knife to the clerk, and
demanded money.
No one was hurt.
The suspect was described as a
white man, in his mid 30s, wearing a
blue zip-up sweatshirt with a hood.

hospital after a trench partially
collapsed on his leg.

The incident happened just behind
the Roanoke E-M-S building on Day
Avenue.
Rescue workers on the scene say
the trench was deep enough to require a
trench box designed to prevent a
collapse -- but the contractor did not
have one installed.
The collapse pinned Ronnie
Wertz's leg.
After he was removed, Wertz was
transported to Roanoke Memorial
Hospital.
No word on his condition, but
fire officials say Wertz's injuries
were NOT life threatening.

harvested.

team members on a chase that ended when
he raised the gun.
Officers thought the gun was a

gun.

antiviral drugs rimantadine
(rih-MAN'-tah-deen) and amantadine
(uh-MAN'-tah-deen) to fight the flu.
Experts say tests show the
dominant flu strain circulating now in
the U-S is resistant to both.
One flu expert calls it a
"disconcerting" development, saying flu
has now joined diseases like
tuberculosis and H-I-V in becoming
resistant to front-line medications.
Doctors still have other options,
like Tamiflu -- which has become the
primary drug being used against flu in
most places.

chorus girl.

the New York stage, then gained fame as
a Hollywood sexpot.
As she aged, she switched to
serious roles -- and won two Oscars.
One for her role as a hiding

another as a foul-mouthed racist in "A
Patch of Blue."
Winters was 85-years-old.

2005 Season Ahmad Brooks says the NFL can

linebacker announced late this
afternoon that he will return for his
senior season in Charlottesville.
Brooks underwent knee surgery last
March, which kept him out of the first
three games of the 2005 campaign. Upon
his return, ankle and back injuries
limited his playing time to just six

season. He did not play in Virginia's
34-31 Music City Bowl win against

arm after he flipped his car during a
qualifying race for the Chili Bowl
Midget Nationals last night. He
complained of pain in the arm after
Friday night's race at the Tulsa Expo
Raceway. X-rays and a CT scan at a
local hospital were both negative, but
Stewart was fitted with a cast until a
more extensive evaluation can be made
by his own doctors. The injury will
not keep Smoke from competing at
Speedweeks next month.
