An accident involving a schoolbus
and a car in downtown Lynchburg sent
ten people to the hospital this
afternoon ... including nine children.

It happened around 3:45 at the
intersection of Eighht and Federal
Streets.

Authorities say Bus Number 57 was
headed north on Eighth Street when it
broadsided a Dodge Stratus crossing
through the intersection.

A passenger in the Dodge was
injured.. Nine students on the bus

were also taken to the hospital for
what were believed to be minor
injuries.

The driver of the car has been
charged with failure to yield the right
of way.

(END SOT) The victim was discovered in an


apartment on King George Avenue about a
quarter to nine.

Donald Lee Seis called his mother
in Salem every morning at exactly eight
o'clock.

When she hadn't heard from him by
8:30, she called a friend who went to
check on Seis.

Bill McClure found the lights on
and the blinds open, but McClure says
he got no response.

point of entry- -an open window with a
curtain rod sticking out and a window
screen lying on the ground.

Roanoke Police Academy recruits
were called out to help investigate.
They conducted a sweep of the wooded

lot behind the apartment complex.
Detectives said they were not looking
for anything in particular, "just
looking."

Seis spoke to Pam Mello late
Monday afternoon, just hours before his
death.

She says he told her his
apartment had been burglarized last
Tuesday.

Megan McClure says "Tiger" does appear
to be favoring his front paw.

A city police spokesman was
unable to immediately confirm the
report of a break in at Seis' apartment
last week. She said that may become
part of the homicide investigation.

That's the question a Lynchburg
jury has to decide in the case against
Robert Earle Rambo.

35-year-old Rambo was arrested
last July after the fatal shooting of
39-year-old Anthony Keith Nance.

An autopsy showed Nance was shot
in the chest, groin and leg.

Prosecutors say the two men had
argued over a woman, but Rambo's
attorney says he acted in self defense.


The case is expected to finish up

"extreme" spotlight next month.

December The national television show,
"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" will

air the episode taped last month on
Sunday, February 12th at 7 p-m.

The stars of the show and
hundreds of volunteers fought snowy,
freezing weather to build a home in
seven days for Carol Crawford Smith's
family.

"Extreme Makeover: is normally an
hour long, but producers say they got
such a good story in the New River
Valley they have turned it into a TWO-
hour event.

A screening party is being
planned at Virginia Tech so the town
can gather to watch the show.

testing at Daytona for the Nextel Cup
cars wrapped up just a short time ago.

One of the drivers taking part in
this week's three day test session is
veteran Dale Jarrett - a former Daytona
master.

Jarrett has 37 career starts at
Daytona - and from 1993 to 2000 he
owned the track winning three Daytona
500's and a Pepsi 400, to go along with

three Bud Shootout victories.

But this week - Jarrett and his
crew are reinventing themselves.

U-V-A and Virginia Tech women last
night featured a ranked team. It was
hard to tell that it was the Hokies who
came in as a Top 25 team. The Wahoos
ran Tech out of the gym with a 19 point
win. Both teams now have a 1 and 2
conference record but realize their is
a long way to go in A-C-C play.

championship games this weekend.

Seattle's city attorney has filed
an assault

charge against Seahawks tackle Sean
Locklear, who is accused of

domestic violence against his
girlfriend.

A police report says Locklear was
shooting pool when he grew angry
because his girlfriend was dancing with
another man. As they left and walked
down the sidewalk, police say Locklear
grabbed the woman by the neck.

Elsewhere, New England Patriots
defensive coordinator Eric Mangini has
been named head coach of the New York
Jets.

The 34-year-old is now the
youngest head coach in the N-F-L.

He replaces Herman Edwards, who left
the Jets to take over the

Kansas City Chiefs. Mangini is a
disciple of New England coach Bill
Belichick and spending ten of his
eleven years in the N-F-L with
