This was pretty much the only
cheering you heard at Victory Stadium
this past year.

With so much of the stadium now off
limits, many fans say Victory Stadium
felt more like a prison.

SOT FULL 11:40:24 SOT FULL

INQ=Our preference BERNIE GODEK/ROANOKE CITY SCHOOLS: OUR

PREFERENCE WOULD NOT TO PLAY IN A
FACILITY LIKE THAT.

RUN03 (END SOT)

OQ=LIKE THAT So the city first looked at playing

high school football at the middle
schools next year.

But it was determined none of them
would have adequate parking or
facilities.

The solution say school
administrators is to play all the home
games at high schools in Roanoke

County.

They'll meet with county leaders on
Friday to negotiate a deal.

SOT FULL 11:42:50 SOT FULL

INQ=Ideally we would BERNIE GODEK: IDEALLY WE WOULD LIKE TO

HAVE WILLIAM FLEMING PLAY ALL THEIR
HOME GAMES AT ONE FIELD AND PATRICK
HENRY PLAY THEIRS AT ANOTHER FIELD.
WHETHER OR NOT WE WILL BE ABLE TO DO
THAT IS YET TO BE SEEN. I WOULD GUESS
THAT WOULD BE DIFFICULT, THAT IS THE
IDEAL SITUATION.

RUN13 (END SOT)

OQ=IDEAL SITUATION If the games are moved to Roanoke

County, they may have to be played on
Saturday.

There's also a possibility the city
will have to share revenue from
concession and ticket sales with the
county.

Transportation costs will go up since
students will have to be bused out of
the city.

With so many hassles, it may lead
some to ask why not just play at
Victory Stadium another year?

SOT FULL 11:46:37 SOT FULL

INQ=I would say BERNIE GODEK: I WOULD SAY THAT BOTH

SCHOOLS THEIR ADMINISTRATIVE STAFFS,

THEIR COACHES, AND I THINK THEIR
PLAYERS WOULD MUCH RATHER PREFER
PLAYING AT A NEW HOME FOOTBALL STADIUM
THAN PLAYING AT VICTORY STADIUM IN ITS
CURRENT CONDITION.

RUN14 (END SOT)>>

OQ=IN ITS CURRENT CONDITION

LIVE=Justin Full/BAM LIVE FULL

This may surprise you but the city
says since it costs so much to rent
Victory Stadium, it may actually be
cheaper to move the games to the
county.

The goal is to have a deal worked out
by next month.

DOUBLE BOXES=Jean & Justin/BAM DOUBLE BOXES

Jean, if Roanoke County says no the
city will look at playing in Franklin

< game for Pulaski County this season.
The sophomore was a Radford Bobcat
until two years ago when he transferred
following his 8th grade year. Although
his younger sister is still in the
Radford School system, Jared is
thriving as a Cougar.

JARED KING/PULASKI COUNTY GUARD:

If the King name sounds familiar, it
should. Jared's mother Brenda won
state titles as head coach of the
Radford girls in 1988 and another in
1990. She still coaches AAU hoops in
the area and is never too far away from
a gym.

BRENDA KING/JARED'S MOM:

Basketball has been therapeutic for the
King family. Back in September Jared's

dad, Danny King passed away after a
bout with cancer. Honoring his memory
has become a top priority for his wife
and son.

JARED:

BRENDA:

Coach Mark Hanks has been there through
it all, watching Jared perservere,
while trying to fill a void in some
small way, He's also carried out Danny
King's wish.

MARK HANKS/PULASKI COUNTY HEAD COACH:

Jared is also a standout baseball
player for the Cougars as well.
