MISSING SINCE THURSDAY NIGHT, WHEN A
CONVEYOR BELT CAUGHT FIRE INSIDE
THE ARACOMA NUMBER ONE MINE. THEY
SOMEHOW GOT SEPARATED FROM A GROUP OF
MINERS THAT MANAGED TO ESCAPE.
OFFICIALS SAY IT APPEARS BOTH MEN MADE
A
VALIANT EFFORT TO TRY TO GET OUT.

OVER THE SPAN OF SEVERAL HOURS,
RESCUERS WERE UNABLE TO ENTER THAT
PORTION OF THE MINE ... BECAUSE OF THE
FLAMES, THICK SMOKE AND INTENSE
HEAT.
THIS IS WEST VIRGINIA'S SECOND MINING
TRAGEDY IN LESS THAN A MONTH.
THIRTEEN MEN WERE TRAPPED IN THE SAGO
MINE ON JANUARY 2ND. ONLY ONE OF
THEM SURVIVED.

Southwest Virginia Delegate Bud
Phillips has introduced a bill that
would require all underground coal
miners to have a wireless
communications system that could help
them during an explosion or collapse.

left one woman dead.

around 1:40 this afternoon in the
76-hundred block of Franklin Road.
Witnesses say Hoaihoung Quinn ran
off the side of the road and struck a
utility pole and a tree.
Crews used the jaws of life to
get her out of the S-U-V, but she later
died at the hospital.
Police are investigating, but say
alcohol was NOT a factor in the crash.

says the whale suffered a series of
convulsions as it was taken out
to sea for release.
The 20-foot-long bottle-nose
wandered into the River Thames (Tehmz)

riverbanks as it swam past Big Ben and
other landmarks.
Rescue workers mounted an
operation today to load the whale onto
a barge and take it into the North Sea,
but officials say it suffered the
effects of being out of the water.

Country Club in an effort to raise
money for the Second Harvest Food Bank.
The cost to attend was five
bucks.

to help raise money for the food bank.

today to begin construction on an
indoor skatepark behind Amazement
Square.
The obstacles placed in the
Rotary Centennial Indoor Skatepark will
eventually be placed in the outdoor
park, which has been years in the
making.

for everyone to enjoy.
