returned to Nancy Wingfield's house
late last night, armed with a new
search warrant and excavating
equipment.

Major Kimmie Nester says
investigators found an article of
interest of significant size buried in
the backyard, though he declined to say
what it may be.

Investigators will return
to the home later this morning.

determine the cause of a fatal fire in
Lynchburg.

Firefighters were called around
10 last night to this home at 1801
Floyd Street.

Flames were coming from the back
of the two-story home, and neighbors
were telling authorities people were
trapped inside.

One man was rescued from the
burning home and has been flown to the

U-V-A Medical Center.

But the body of another man was
found in a back room on the first
floor.

Their names have not been
released.

No word yet on the cause.

three bank robbery suspects are back
behind bars in Campbell County.

Around 12:30, a man robbed the
Sun Trust bank on Timberlake Road and
left in a green Nissan pickup.

Police found the truck later at
this home on Turkey Foot Road, but a
neighbor said the two men inside had
left in a white van.

A deputy stopped the van a short
while later, but at the time they

didn't have enough evidence to keep the
suspects under arrest.

though.

After searching one suspect's
home, police got enough evidence to
charge three men with the bank robbery:
Randall Scott Mason and Jeffrey
McCormick of Evington and David Frank
Sprinkle of Lynchburg.


McCormick and Sprinkle were
arrested after police stopped their van
again, this time on Leesville Road.

take a bite out of the number of
attacks by dangerous dogs.

Senator Ed Houck Howk introduced
the bill after several Virginians, like
Dorothy Sullivan, were killed or
seriously injured by dogs last year.

Sullivan was standing in front of
her Spotsylvania County home with her
dog Buttons, when the two were mauled
by three pit bulls.

Sullivan died.

dogs who kill or seriously injure a
human would face up to ten years in
prison and a 25- hundred dollar fine.

The bill would also create a

"Dangerous Dog Registry" that would be
posted online.

The measure passed in a committee
yesterday and will now go before the

family after a car plows through their
home.

Neighbors say it sounded like a
gas explosion.

The car's driver missed a turn
near Maywood Drive, sending the vehicle
through one yard for nearly 30 feet,
before going airborne, taking out a
fence and a chunk of another backyard

and then slamming into a brick wall.

The two women in the car were
taken to the hospital.

No one was home but the family's
two dogs that were inside are okay.

Yesterday morning, school
officials held a meeting for parents.
