RUNS=2:30 (END SOT)

OQ=Hometown Hoops Weekly. << For the gym to be packed at
(END SOT) Rockbridge County is quite an

achievement. Headed into this season
the the Wildcats had never posted a
winning record in basketball during the
schools history. Barring an unforeseen
collapse that streak will come to an
end this season.

The man behind the turnaround is

head coach Brian Freeland, who brought
to Lexington a different style that the
kids were used too.

(MAYO:14:23:05)

(FREELAND:14:17:28)

Talent always makes coaches
better and Freeland is reaping the
rewards of playing a lot of youngsters
a season ago in his first season on the
sidelines for the Wildcats when they
went 6 and 17 but the improvement was
evident.

(Early: 14:25:52)

(FREELAND:14:19:59)

It should be no real suprise that
former Alleghany Mountaineer is doing
well as a coach, considering who he has
been a pupil under. He played for
Jimmy Smith, worked under Ron Bradley
at Radford during college and has
coached with Allen Cantrell at Floyd
County, Kevin Johnson at Magna Vista
and Mark Cartolaro at Altavista.

(FREELAND 14:18:06)

(STANDUP: those plays must be working
the Wildcats are 11 and 4 and 8 and 2
in the Valley District, they are
currently in Second place trailing only
Robert E. Lee. If Rockbridge can stay

where they are in the standings they
have a good shot to earn a berth in the
Regional playoffs, something that would
have far reaching effects (Grant
Kittelson, Hometown Hoops Weekly)

(FREELAND:14:19:25)

The Wildcats have 6 regular
season games remained before their
district tournament begins, Grant
