call a major crack cocaine operation in
Wytheville today.

Just before seven this morning a
swat team entered this house on West
Franklin and arrested 34 year-old
Edward Owens who's from the Detroit
area.

But it wasn't easy at first.

Authorities say the house was
fortified... the windows and doors were
blocked inside with wood and cinder
blocks.

Police threw an explosive device
that uses light and sound to distract
Owens while they broke down the door.

It landed on the sofa and started
a fire.

crack.

They say it may have burned in
the fire, but under cover police have
bought cocaine there.

Owens is facing a felony charge
of running a fortified crack house.

Authorities are looking for
several others in connection to the
drug operation.

police he may have hit Virginia Tech
Freshman Brian McCloskey.

Freshman was found lying unconscious on
a walking trail.

He died from his injuries five
days later.
*CG locator Blacksburg According to a sealed search November 2005 warrant obtained by the Roanoke Times, :08 Aaron Pierce told investigators he left
a party McCloskey had attended and
instead of driving through the parking
lot, he took a shortcut across the area
where McCloskey was found.

Pierce told police he was driving
a Ford Excursion he had borrowed from
his roommate Cameron Johnson, who is
also the general sales manager of Magic
City Ford in Roanoke.

damaged three buildings.

IT was about four in the morning
when the fire started at 813 Day
Avenue.

When firefighters got there-
heavy smoke was coming from one of the
buildings.

The intense heat inside forced
firefighters out- One fireman sustained
minor injuries when he fell through the
floor.

The fire also spread to two other
structures, but they only sustained
very minor damage.

No one was inside at the time.

Investigators will return to try
to find out its cause, when the
building is secure.

stories tall...

has a concealed weapons permit.

He was attempting to empty his
ammunition magazine yesterday morning
when the gun went off.

The bullet hit a bullet proof
vest hanging on the back of his door.

incident occurred but not alarmed.

for as long as Capitol Police can

Until March of 2004, gun permit

Last Night Washington was ejected from last
night's game against Duke for a
flagrant act against Lee Melchoni.
Washington was fouled on the play and
while getting up from the floor he
kicked the Duke player. Washington
apologized to Coach Mike Krzyzewski and
Melchoni after the game.

This will add to the Hokies depth
problems. Coleman Collins left to be
with his ailing father after last
night's game and will be away for the
team indefinitely, Doctor's do not
expect Collins father to live through
the weekend.
