The governor, who's been in
office for less than three weeks, has
been tapped to deliver the Democratic
response to President George Bush's
State- of- the- Union address tonight.

Kaine will spend most of the day
in Washington meeting with Democrats
and journalists.

He'll then return to Richmond
where he'll deliver his response from
the Governor's Mansion.

Kaine says he was surprised to
get the call last month, but is honored
to have the opportunity.

He says his only request was that
he have complete control over what he
says.

President Bush will begin his
address at nine o'clock this evening.

Kaine's response will start
around 10 o'clock and is expected to be
fairly brief.

But here's the catch, the policy
is only for students at Glenvar,

Students at Cave Spring and
Hidden Valley will still have to take
final exams.

The school board decided to try
the exempt policy at certain schools
because the board members from Cave
Spring and Hidden Valley had some
reservations.

So right now, it's being treated
as a pilot program which will be
reviewed next year.
