problems, a new traffic pattern is
underway at the Roanoke Civic Center.

The Gretchen Wilson concert and
the Broadway play Oklahoma, both kicked
off Wednesday night.
Thousands poured in which equaled
thousands of cars.
The result was 25 cars illegally
parked being towed and ticket holders
arriving to events late.
That's due to the insane amount
of traffic in the parking lot and
Tazwell Avenue Garage.
Shuttle buses were late which
meant a delay getting to the big show.
To prevent this from happening
again, the Civic Center will open two
garages, diverting half the traffic to
the one at Tazwell Avenue and
Williamson Road and the garage on
Church Avenue and Second Street.

last weekend in Blacksburg is showing
signs of improvement.

Lonsdale is now in fair condition at
Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Lonsdale was at a frat party
early Saturday morning when police say
he was punched by 19 year old Justin
Love.
Love was arrested and charged
with malicous wounding.

South Korea is spending three weeks in
the Star City.
Part of that time is spent
interacting with American students from

They're learning a lot despite
the obvious language barrier.

accident on Catawba Road in Botetourt

line.
Authorities say the accident is
near Nanny's Market.

GRAPHIC=VA Legislature A Senate Committee has passed a
bill that would restrict where
Virginians can smoke.

The bill, sponsored by Senator
Brandon Bell, would prohibit smoking in
most buildings and enclosed areas
frequented by the public.
Folks who light up in buildings
where smoking is prohibited could be
fined one- hundred- dollars.
It would be left up to localities
to decide how strict the regulations
would be.
Senator Bell says the state
already regulates the quality and
safety of workplaces- and keeping
citizens away from harmful second- hand
smoke is a natural step.

GRAPHIC=Virginia Tech Virginia Tech has received a
makeover.

VO-NAT The University unveiled a new
logo, featuring the trademarked motto,
"Invent the Future".
It's part of a new campaign to
better market the University.
The school's website will feature
podcasts and will be completely
redesigned this summer.
The school began running ads in
yesterday's local newspapers and will
start a TV campaign later this month.
Officials say the effort does not
change what the University is all
about, it simply helps them tell the
University's story a little better.

Pittsylvania County searching for a
former Marine who's been missing for
more than a year.

Yesterday, police from two
jurisdictions searched an abandoned
well on this section of land off Berry
Hill Road, but did "not" find any human
remains.
About a dozen other similar
wells in the area have been searched
since 33-year-old Jonathan Blackwell
disappeared in October, 2004.
His burned-out car was found a
week later.
An 11-thousand dollar reward is
being offered for information in the
case.

accused of murdering his own sister.

arrested James Alton Motes as soon as
he was released from the hospital
yesterday afternoon.

Last Month drinking a toxic liquid shortly before
deputies came to question him last
month about the dissapearance of his
sister.
Nancy Motes Wingfield's
body was found buried in several
locations around the home she and her
brother shared in Collinsville.
James Motes was charged
with the crime last week.

GRAPHIC=Interstate 81 Should Interstate 81 be wider?
Some local lawmakers say only
certain parts.

Several delegates along the I-81
corridor and Senator John Edwards are
supporting a resolution that asks V-Dot
to stop working with Star Solutions.
They say the massive plan to
widen 81 isn't what local citizens
want.
Instead, the delegation supports
adding extra lanes through congested
areas only.
The group also supports hiring
more State Troopers to improve safety.
A spokesman for Star Solutions
says *their* polling shows Virginians
support widening all 300- miles of the
interstate.
He says too much time and money
have gone into the plan for the state
to back out now.
