GRAPHIC=Tornado Some people who live in

Pittsylvania County are still cleaning
up from Saturday's tornadoes.

VO-NAT The National Weather Service and

the Pittsylvania County Emergency
Response Team inspected the trees and
damage path for most of the day.

They've determined that an F-1
tornado DID touch down in Callands.

The storm left a debris field
nearly two and a half miles long.

But even with the high winds, the
emergency management team says no one
was seriously injured during the
twister.

GRAPHIC=None A House of Delegates committee

has endorsed a measure that would lift
the helmet law for motorcycle riders 21
and older .

The bill's sponsor, William Janis
of Henrico, says helmet wearing should
be optional for motorcycle enthusiasts.

Opponents say the law would

likely lead to more serious injuries.

The bill is now headed for the
full House.

GRAPHIC=None Franklin County leaders say they

want to hear from residents this week
on two important issues.

The first is on a plan to improve
the county's public safety system -- in
areas like response time and volunteer
recruitment.

VO-NAT The other is on a plan to build a

general aviation airport near Colonial
Turnpike and Patti Road.

The county says it will spark
economic growth, but many residents
think it's a waste of money.

The airport meeting is set for
this Wednesday -- from four to
eight-p-m at the CATCE (KAT-see)
center.

The public safety meeting is
tonight at seven o-clock in the Board
of Supervisors' meeting room.

If you can't make that one, there

will be another on Friday.

GRAPHIC=None Governor Kaine is taking a look

at Virginia's mining laws.

VO-NAT The Governor says many of the

laws adopted by West Virginia have been
on Virginia's books for more than a
decade.

Still, he plans to organize a
meeting with mine operators, union and
state mining officials to see if
there's anything the state could be
doing better.

A bill moving through the
legislature would require all Virginia
mines be equipped with a wireless
communications system that could be
accessed in case of an emergency.

Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Seattle

Seahawks 21-to-10.

One local Steelers fan gave up
watching Pittsburgh to take a cruise.

VO-NAT After winning a K-92 radio

contest, Marcie Bowne (BONE) thought
she was going to Detroit for the
Superbowl.

Then she learned the trip was
actually for a cruise.

But, there was a catch...

To go on the cruise, she couldn't
watch the Superbowl.

Instead, she had to watch old
reruns of the family sitcom Full House.
