Currently the County only bills
patients if they're picked up by a
career rescue squad.

In the future, the bill could
come for pickups made by volunteers as
well.

A system that's already in place
in most areas, including Raonoke
County, where the billing brings in an
estimated one and a half million
dollars each year.

The good news is typically 97
percent of the cost is billed to the
patient's insurance provider.

And if the patient can't afford to
come up with the rest, it's a write
off.

If Franklin County approves the
plan, the money collected would be used
mainly for buildings to house
volunteers.
