October 24, 2004 2004 plane crash that killed family
members and employees of the Hendrick
Motorsports race team.

The plane was carrying its
passengers to the Martinsville race
when it attempted to land in heavy fog
at the Blue Ridge Airport in Henry
County.

All ten people aboard were killed.

Now 15 months later, we are learning
more about the crash.

navigational aids as they approached
the airport.

It appears they misinterpreted
the information, which offset their
approach by several miles.

beyond the runway when the flight crew
radioed they were initiating a missed
approach. But just seconds later the
plane crashed into Bull Mountain.

Investigators say even in the
final minutes of the flight, when the
plane was well beyond the airport...
had the flight crew followed the proper
missed approach procedure and made a
right hand turn, the plane would have
avoided the mountain.>>

Investigators also revealed today
that an air traffic controller handling
the flight missed an alert that showed

the plane had fallen below a minimum
safe altitude.

But that probably wouldn't have
made a difference, because the
controller had already handed off the
approach to the pilot, and was no
longer in radio contact with the
Hendrick plane.

dead on his neighbor's doorstep Friday
night was run over by his own car.

Police found the body of
59-year-old Curtis Terrell Templeton in
the 100 block of Jonathan's Landing,
after a neighbor reported finding blood
in her driveway.

Templeton had suffered multiple
injuries.

Authorities now believe he had
parked his car, gotten out and the
vehicle rolled back and struck him.

No foul play is suspected, but the
incident is still under investigation.

plan could be billing for all ambulance
rides.

career rescue squad.

In the future, the bill could come
for pickups made by volunteers as well.

A system that's already in place in
most areas, including Raonoke County,

estimated one and a half million

percent of the cost is billed to the
patient's insurance provider.

And if the patient can't afford to

come up with the rest, it's a write
off.

If Franklin County approves the
plan, the money collected would be used
mainly for buildings to house
volunteers.

(I suppose those who us who had had a
baby in our 30s should feel pretty
fortunate that we didn't need extra
help getting pregnant. First off, how
long should couples try to conceive
before they seek treatment from a
fertility specialist?)

(I understand there's now a procedure
that can calculate how many years of
fertility a woman has left...how does
that work?)

(What are a couple of the latest
treatments available for women to help
their chances of safely carrying a baby
to term?)

(What about treatment for male

in that area?)

(And I suppose there's always the
option of having a surrogate carry the
child for you-- How good of an idea is

this?)

Jim Wiley has been fired in an apparent
move to shake things up.

This Season The Vipers have lost 11 straight
games, and the first year franchise has
won just 12 of its 43 games the entire

season.

Wiley got a late start as the
head coach of the Roanoke team, as the
original Head Coach left the team for
another job September 2nd.

Wiley had virtually no time to
put together a roster before starting
training camp.

The Vipers have also had their
share of injury problems and roster
changes, with their starting goalie
retiring at midseason.

Assistant coach Daniel Berthiaume
takes over the head coaching duties on
an interim basis.
