in the attic detected a suspicious
material- and initial tests indicated
it was a "nerve agent."

200 people were forced out of the
Russell Senate Office Building-
including eight senators... and told
to go to a Capitol parking garage as a
precaution.

Once additional tests showed it
was not a nerve agent... the people
were allowed out of the garage- police
say no one showed symptoms of exposure
to a nerve agent.

EDUCATION 7 ANIMATION Valley High School have learned an
important lesson, their opinions do
matter.

Tonight, the Roanoke County school
board had a change of heart.

News7 @ 11 in Monitor DOUBLE BOXES

details. Justin what exactly did the
school board do?

Jean, the board changed a policy many
thought was unfair.

jmcleod@wdbj7.com You may remember us telling you last
week about a plan to exempt high school
students from final exams.

It caused quite a controversy
because two schools were left out.

ENG#=2 VO-NAT
VO-NAT

*CG locator Roanoke Co.

Tonight, the school board corrected a
wrong by including all high schools.

The policy is similar to what seniors
now experience. If any high school
student has an A or B average and

95-percent attendance, they can be
exempted from second semester exams.

Cave Spring and Hidden Valley were
originally left out because the two
school board members from those areas
had concerns.

They still do, but wanted to make the
policy fair for everyone.

Not everyone is happy about the new
policy.

Some argue taking fewer exams will
hurt students once they get to college.

LIVE=Justin Full/BAM LIVE FULL

As a result, the school system is
treating this as a pilot program.

At the end of two years, the school
board will review data to see if it's
working and then vote whether to make
the exemption permanent.

DOUBLE BOXES=Jean & Justin/BAM DOUBLE BOXES

One other note Jean, the school board
extended the policy to seventh and
eighth graders who are taking advanced
classes, but we want to stress that is
only for advance classes.

Hokies vs. Tigers We pick it up in the second half :00 and the Hokies down by three with the

clock running out in regulation, but
Zabian Dowdell hits the three to send
it to overtime.

In the Extra period - Dowdell
would again come through in the clutch
as he hits a nasty left handed runner
on the baseline.

But Clemson had all kinds of
chances to win it. Vernon Hamilton gets
the ball to Cliff Hammonds, who gets a
great shot inside, it won't go, the tip
won't go, and Shawan Robinson's shot is
off as well as the *CG final Virginia Tech Hokies escape with the 75-to-74 win 75 despite missing their last five foul Clemson shots in the game.

Eagles vs. Maroons Veteran head coach Bill :00 Leatherman -who been at Bridgewater 21
years - brought his Eagles to the Bast
Center on this the final full week of
the regular season.

Roanoke would open things up on a
positive note as Tee Jackson finds
Jared Butler - who in turns buries the
three pointer and the Noke is off and
running.

The Maroons Jackson would later
come down shoot and miss, but Ben
Lawler is there to clean it up and
score in close for Roanoke.

Bridgewater would roar back and
take the lead thanks to the efforts of
Riverheads' product Josh Fox. *CG final Bridgewater

68 But - Butler will find Keith
Carter for a three ball and the Maroons
beat Bridgewater 68-to-54.

Cougars vs. Knights It was senior night for the :00 Knights - as the 12th grade
cheerleaders and players were honored
before tip-off.

After the opening tip - two of
those seniors got busy - David Redick
hits the slicing Matt Nowlin who drops
in two on the fly for Cave Spring.

Later Redick would set up on the
low block take the entry pass and just
power his way up for another in close
hoop for the Knights.

Pulaski Austin Twine then got
inside the and he will slip this assist
to Shay Dunnigan - who gets the rock to
drop for two. *CG final Pulaski Co.

January 31 The cat has been transferred to
Planned Pethood in Franklin County,
where specialists will work to improve
its behavior.

"Crazy" was rescued from a tree in
the backyard of a Roanoke home. The cat
was originally taken to the Roanoke
Valley SPCA but crews did not have the
resources to deal with its aggressive
behavior.

They're hopeful Planned Pethood
will be able to mold Crazy into an
adoptable pet.

*CG locator Ocoee, FL Belle the Beagle actually called 911
and that saved his owner's life.

Kevin Weaver is a diabetic and his

smart beagle knows when his blood sugar
is low- or too high- by smelling his
breathe.

Tuesday monring Belle started
barking.. just before Weaver passed
out. That's when Belle grabbed
Weaver's cell phone, bite down and held
down the number nine.

You can even see the bite marks on
the phone.
