started a fire that destroyed a home
near Big Island this afternoon.

The house at the end of Folkes
Street was already engulfed in flames
when the first firefighters arrived
around 2:30.
It burned to the ground in a
matter of minutes and firefighters were
left hosing down the remains and trying
to keep the fire from spreading into
the nearby woods.
Authorities say a woman lived in
the house but was not home when the
fire broke out.
The cause is under investigation.

seven days. The former professional
dancer, came to Blacksburg in
1991 to run a cultural center. Six
years ago she was diagnosed with
multiple schelorsis.

football season last December - the
Blue Ridge district lost three of its
five head football coaches to either
retirement, resignation, or dimissal.
The tonight News 7 Sports has learned
that one of those vacancies will be
filled.

tonight's meeting - Burt Torrence will
be named the new head football coach at
Northside.
Torrence has been the top
assistant at Hidden Valley the past two
years and before that he was an
assistant coach at Rockbridge County.
He also has been an assistant
baseball coach at Hidden Valley where
he teaches history.
Torrence replaces a legend in Jim
Hickam - who was fired on December 20th
last year after 31 years as Northside's
head coach.

Tigers. It may sound like a broken
record but it is the case once again as
the Hokies are coming off another close
loss in the A-C-C. This one a 1 point

with Breast Cancer. The mother JoAnn

Critical Care Nurse even as she

Daytona tomorrow to set up shop for
Speedweeks 2006.
Today Kurt Busch was ordered to
perform 50 hours of community service
as part of a plea agreement over a
reckless driving citation he received
near Phoenix International Raceway last
year. Busch admitted to speeding,
following too closely and passing in a
no-passing zone. In exchange for those
pleas, the reckless driving charge was
dropped. The community service must be
completed within a year, and Busch also
paid $580 in court fines today.
