league for kids in the New River Valley
is taking the game to a whole new
level.

Basketball.'
During half-times and practices-
hundreds of kids are learning about the
Bible.
It's catching on so quickly
organizers are running out of gyms to
use.
Upward Basketball started
three-years ago with about 200 boys and

players, and this year- 670 kids play
in grades K through eighth.

On Interstate 81 traffic was moving
very well. Most vehicles were going the
speed limit or just below. no major

In downtown Christiansburg, snow did
begin to stick on sidestreets, but snow
plows have been out since early this
morning, trying to stay ahead of the
storm. Route 460 was a little slushier
than the rest of the roadways. Drivers
were going a little slower and being

As the snow started falling,
V-DOT was already out there treating
the roadways, and the snow wasn't
really sticking to them.

On Interstate 81 traffic was moving
very well. Most vehicles were going the
speed limit or just below. no major
problems reported.
In downtown Christiansburg, snow did
begin to stick on sidestreets, but snow
plows have been out since early this
morning, trying to stay ahead of the
storm. Route 460 was a little slushier
than the rest of the roadways. Drivers
were going a little slower and being
cautious. >>

the deaths of two women were found dead
in northeast Roanoke.

Neighbors say the women lived in
apartments across from each other in
Tinker Manor.
Neighbors say they heard no

emergency crews from several areas into
Montgomery County for the better part
of last night.

afternoon near Den Hill Road between
Shawsville and Christiansburg.
18-Norfolk Southern cars derailed
and caught fire.
Crews were able to quickly
extinguish the flames.
There were no hazardous materials
onboard and no one was injured.
There's no word yet on the cause
of the derailment.

transportation system.

proposed raising two- billion dollars
over the next four-years.
Debt and tougher penalties on
chronically bad drivers fund most of
the plan which does *NOT* include
raising taxes.
More than 550- million dollars
would be used for one- time projects
like easing choke points along
Interstates 81, 66, and 64.
That money would also be used to
come up with a rail solution to ease
truck traffic.
House Democrats say they wish the
plan had more substance.
