jail outside Chicago over the weekend
are back in custody.

Four of the escapees were soon re-
captured.

Appomattox County mother was found

murdered, police have charged a man
with the crime.

Sept. 27, 2005 The body of Dorothy Harris was
discovered last September inside her
home on Oakville Road.

Authorities say she had been shot
to death.

The investigation continued until
early yesterday morning when police
arrested 35-year-old Thomas Douglas
Groves of Bedford and charged him with
Harris's murder.

They say Groves is the father of
one of Harris's five children and had
been a suspect for some time.

He was arrested when he showed up
at the murder scene yesterday morning.

involved in an accident that injured a
Virginia Tech student.

A news release says 21-year-old
Brad Gignac was traveling North on
Chickahominy Drive, when he lost
control of his vehicle on the snowy
road around 3:20 yesterday morning.

He then ran off the road, struck
a sign and then hit 21-year-old

Virginia Tech student Daniel Abramson-
who was walking in the area.

Abramson was taken to Montgomery
Regional Hospital with moderate, but
non-life threating injuries.

Gignac who is also a Virginia
Tech student, was arrested and charged
with Driving under the influence.

Dale Earnhardt, Jr. was slow
yesterday afternoon.

Junior recorded just the 39th
fastest time.

Bobby Labonte held the
provisional pole for a while.

Labonte toured the superspeedway
at 187.93 miles an hour in the
legendary 43.

Burton turned in a lap at
188.87 miles an hour to grab the top
spot.

He was in position for his
first pole since 2000.

Jeff Gordon went fast enough
for the outside of row one.

He's won 4 of the last 7
restrictor plate races, but Burton will
lead the pack to the green flag next
Sunday.

tangled on the backstretch to bring out
the early caution flag.

Jeff Gordon saw his day come to a
premature end, when the 24 machine blew
up midway thru the race.

In the end, it was a great day
to be from Virginia.

Denny Hamlin, the Chesterfield
native, got some help from

Gibbs teammate, Tony Stewart.

The rookie held off Dale
Earnhardt, Junior and Stewart to claim
the Budweiser Shootout in his first
appearance, gaining lifetime membership
into the race.
