his burning apartment last night.

The fire at the corner of

Patterson Avenue and Ninth Street in
Roanoke broke out just before eleven.

Crews rescued one man from a
first floor apartment, and took him to
Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment
of smoke inhalation.

Firefighters also rescued a
cat and a dog, though a second dog
died.

Investigators weren't yet sure
what caused the fire.

engineer for the state explains the

dams are in the highest risk

developer, Hunter Company Subdivision,

definite, no matter who builds what,
Craig County would be liable if
anything happened.

least six months.

Museum officials say there are two
reasons for that--trouble finding a
general contractor and rising

in her own home.

living room, when someone broke into
her home and shot her once in the back
of the head.

he got his gun and fired back, but says
he couldn't provide any more details.

injured in a crash Saturday has been
sent home from the hospital.

State police say 34-year-old
Michael Dalton was traveling too fast
for the snowy conditions when he
wrecked his patrol car near Gretna.

Dalton was "not" wearing a seatbelt
and was thrown from the car, suffering
head injuries.

A hospital spokeswoman says Dalton
was discharged yesterday.

is aerating the pond.

dams in the area of the Black Diamond
Ranch.

Especially considering none of
the four dams is up to standard, and
the county would be responsible if the
dams were to break.

of Delegates today.

what caused an apartment fire last
night at the corner of Patterson Avenue
and Ninth Street in Roanoke.
Firefighters rescued one man from a
first floor apartment. They also
rescued a cat and a dog, though a
second dog died.

More than two years after they
lost their jobs, former Pillowtex
workers may be getting their paychecks.

The Charlotte Observer reports
Pillowtex has struck a deal with its
creditors, allowing the company to
issue final checks averaging
two-thousand dollars to laid off
workers. A formal announcement is
expected today.
