Centers for Disease Control, Virginia
has widespread cases of influenza
throughout the state right now.

Local health officials say there
are hundreds of doses of the flu
vaccine left, and getting a flu shot
now could still help.

a suspect in the case of a double

murder in Roanoke.

Last week police found the bodies
of 46-year-old Deborah Pearl Vaugan and
53-year-old Brenda Marie Wright inside
an apartment at Tinker Creek Manor
apartments.

At this point, no arrests have
been made, but neighbors say there's
been a lot of activity around the
complex.

a busy stretch of U-S 460.

two mile section from the Roanoke City
limits to the Botetourt County line.

Traffic engineers say increased
development in the area, and a crash
rate that's above average, lead V-DOT

welcome to the Thursday ticker.

It's a big day at Daytona - with
the Gatorade Duels - the 150 mile long
qualifying races taking center stage at
the World Center of Racing.

TNT The day began clear and dry, but
rain has delayed and interrupted the
racing several times this afternoon
extending the first qualifying race to
over two and a half hours.

The race was relatively calm and
the worst incident occured under
caution this big piece of debris off of
Chad Chaffin's car was on the track and
as the drivers to avoid it - Sterling
Marlin didn't slow down and slammed
right into the back of Dale Jarrett.

That set up a green, white
checkered three lap dash to the finish
and Emporia's Elliott Sadler would win
the first race with Carl Edwards
second.

Daytona and the temperatures back here
feeling very Florida-like we thought we
would stay in the sunshine state this
afternoon for a little spring training
news.

Red Sox Spring Training The Boston Red Sox are all set to
crank up the spring in Fort Myers and
the City of Palms park.

The team's road crew arrived this
morning and began unloading the gear in
preparation for the arrival of the
pitchers and catchers on Saturday.

Two of the new hurlers arrived
today.

The Sox won 95 games last season
and have added some new faces over the

winter - especially on the mound.
Right-hander Josh Beckett and three
relievers hope to get the Sox back in
the series this season.

GRAPHIC=BAM On the local baseball front - the

Lynchburg Hillcats announced that they
have extended their big league
affiliation with the Pittsburgh Pirates
through the 2008 season.

The player development contract
between the Bucs and Hillcats began
back in 1995. In 11 seasons together
the pair has produced two Carolina
League championships.

GRAPHIC= Add Indiana to the list of

schools that will be looking for a new
basketball coach at the end of the
season.

VO-NAT Mike Davis will step down as the

head coach of the Hoosiers at the end
of the season. Davis is in his 6th
season as the head man in Bloomington.
He led the Hoosiers to the 2-thousand
and 2 National Championship game before
losing to Maryland. Indiana was ranked
as high as 9th earliers this season,
but have lost 6 of their past 7 games.
Davis stated earlier in the week, that
the Hoosier program would be better off

with someone who was an Indiana
graduate in charge of the team.

The musuem's manager said visitors

president?
