TNT The day began clear and dry, but
rain delayed and interrupted the first
qualifying race extending it to over
two and a half hours.

It was rather calm until the
caution came out late for this big
piece of debris off of Chad Chaffin's
car. The drivers slowed down to avoid
it - but Sterling Marlin didn't slow
down and slammed right into the back of
Dale Jarrett.

That set up a green, white
checkered three lap dash to the finish
and Emporia's Elliott Sadler would win
the first race with Carl Edwards

second.

Tuesday of this week and since then
things have been hopping in the Hokies'
football office.

Tony Ball left the Tech coaching
staff for Georgia,

And Curt Newsome is still
expected to arrive at Tech any day from
JMU and coach the offensive line.

But the most interesting hire
could be the new receivers coach.

GRAPHIC=SHERMAN Kevin Sherman has been on campus

this week talking about joining the
Tech coaching staff. He currently is
at Wake Forest, but he starred at
Ferrum where he was a captain of the
Panthers and graduated in 1992. Plus,
he spent four seasons as an assistant
coach at VMI.

job of that lately. Tech is 2nd in the

(gwa-Reno) a happy birthday.

Guarino is a long-time member of

Folks at the retirement center
threw him a big party with a Hokie

Guarino says even though he was
born and raised in New York City, the
