heading to court.

school have filed a lawsuit.

They claim the city held meetings
without proper public notice.

The suit also alleges the city
failed to follow its own zoning
ordinance and comprehesive plan.

The city attorney says he has yet

cleared another hurdle.

Members of Roanoke City Council
yesterday appropriated four point one
million dollars for the project.

The vote was four to two in
favor, with Sherman Lea and Brian
Wishneff voting against the high school
stadium.

School officials must still hold
community meetings on the stadium
design, but yesterday's vote was the
final approval they needed to move
forward with the project.

about to undergo some major changes.

Construction will begin this week
on the Toms Creek interchange.

V-DOT and the town are building a
bypass over route 460 to Toms Creek
Road.

Town officials say the
interchange is really needed to improve
safety in that area.


The project won't be finished
until August of 2007.

Some residents will temporarily
lose parking spaces and hundreds will
have to deal with detours.

has landed a big- time investment.

Synchrony (SIN-cruh-nee),
Incorporated announced yesterday it has

secured a five-million dollar
investment from NewVa (NEW-vuh) Capital
Partners and Third Security, both of
Radford.

Synchrony specializes in the
development and production of magnetic
bearings, power and control systems.

Company officials say the
investment will help Synchrony expand
operations, and put it closer to
reaching its goal as the industry's
global leader.

The company was started in 1993,
and has since secured contracts with
the Department of Defense and Rolls
Royce.

Yesterday, the board of

supervisors voted against the project,
four to three.

Supervisor Leland Mitchell made
the motion to withdraw the plan at the
proposed Patti (PAT-eye) Road site.

But, Russ Johnson then made a
SECOND motion to withdraw the project
altogether.

The county began seeking federal
funding in 2000 to build an airport --
in hopes of spurring economic
development.

But, many residents were against
the idea -- calling it a waste of
money.

Hotel Roanoke employees wearing
costumes, tooted horns and passed out
beads during a Mardi Gras parade on the
City Market.

They were promoting a fundraiser
this Friday night to benefit victims of
Hurricane Katrina.

The hotel is putting on a New
Orleans-style benefit, complete with
hot Cajun cooking and cool jazz...for
25 dollars a person.

murders may have been solved.

VO-NAT 30-year old Andre Wayne Hunt was


arrested and charged in the death of a
man found shot to death Sunday morning.

Monday The body of 49-year old William
Wellington King was discovered Sunday
in the alley off Sixth Street between
Allison and Walnut Avenues.

Neighbors said they reported gun
shots around 3 A-M.

Residents called 9-1-1, and a
patrol car came by.

But police say the body wasn't
found until after 9 in the morning.

This is the second murder in a
month in this area.

Donald Seiss was found bludgeoned
to death in his own apartment last
month ...just two blocks from the spot
where King was found this week. No
one's been arrested in that murder.
