The proposed law would have
banned smoking in restaurants and most
indoor places.

Since Virginia doesn't have bars
- just restaurants- a spokesman for R-J
Reynolds argued the law would keep the
company from marketing its products-

But for most committee members
the decision boiled down to property
rights.

week for trying to meet up with a 14
year old girl for a sexual encounter.

Turns out the girl he met online
was actually a state police special
agent.

29 year old Christopher Nester
was charged with using a communication
system to solicit a child.

from A Botetourt County jury, clearing
a former Roanoke County Sheriff's
Deputy of a morals charge.

reference to a bomb threat for
Wednesday scratched in a boy's bathroom
at Liberty HIgh School.

After receiving a number of tips,
Bedford County sheriff's deputies
arrested a 16 year old boy at the
school.

In his book bag, investigators found
diagrams and drawings of the schools
layout and that's not the only thing.

stealing, opening graves and unlawful

funeral homes.

was singled out for lacking fast
communication with emergency
responders.

The report didn't call for any
resignations, but it did say
inexperienced disaster response
managers contribute to the problems.

The goal at the moment is to have
better safeguards set up in New Orleans
and along the Gulf Coast within four
months, when hurricane season returns.

elderly Salem woman killed in an
accident this afternoon.

Police say 82-year old Hazel
Puckett ran her car off one side of
Roanoke Boulevard, overcorrected and
moved into the opposite lane.

A truck hit the car on the
passenger side. Puckett died.

The driver of the truck was not
hurt

Regional Semi-final game featured the
Top-ranked team in Triple "A" the
Panthers traveling to face the 3rd
ranked Eagles. This game was sold out
way before tip-off. The gym was so
packed that 1 person was taken out on a
stretcher before the game even started.

even forced The Homestead to close for
