(END SOT) IT IS THE LAST ROUNDUP FOR A VETERAN

CBS NEWS HAND

(SOT)

"And good morning everybody. I'm
Christopher Glenn with the World News

Roundup"

AFTER 35 YEARS AT CBS NEWS,

CORRESPONDENT CHRIS GLENN IS HANGING UP
HIS

MICROPHONE FOR THE LAST TIME.

(nat)

"Time to shine - Sasha Cohen to skate
for the Gold" or "Steve, good

morning, buon giorno!"

IT LOOKED LIKE A ROUTINE BROADCAST OF
CBS RADIO'S WORLD NEWS ROUNDUP...

BUT COLLEAGUE CHARLES OSGOOD JOINED
CHRIS THIS MORNING TO SAY GOODBYE

(SOT OSGOOD)

"You are the best and we wish you the
best."

CHRISTOPHER GLENN SPENT MOST OF HIS 50
YEARS IN BROADCASTING IN RADIO...

NOT JUST IN THE BOOTH BUT IN THE FIELD.
HE WAS IN FLORIDA WHEN THE

SHUTTLE CHALLENGER EXPLODED IN 1986.

(SOT FROM RADIO OVER CHALLENGER VIDEO

:10)

"A terrible thing - debris falling out
of the sky, falling slowly,

painfully, tragically towards the

Atlantic Ocean just a few miles

offshore."

(SOT CHRISTOPHER GLENN, CBS NEWS

CORRESPONDENT)

"As it was happening was the most
emotional - affected me emotionally

the most. In front of your face this
thing with seven human beings blows

up."

MANY WILL REMEMBER NOT ONLY CHRISTOPHER
GLENN'S VOICE BUT HIS FACE FROM

THEIR CHILDHOOD. HE ANCHORED THE FIRST
TELEVISION NEWS SHOWS FOR KIDS IN

THE 1970'S AND 1980'S.

(SOT CHRISTOPHER GLENN)

"It wasn't like we were going on with
kids news, "bunny rabbit" stories.

We told the news, we told it straight
and we told it true."

ON THIS HIS LAST DAY HE WAS STILL
DELIVERING THE NEWS STRAIGHT AND TRUE

AS HE CLOSED HIS LAST ROUNDUP.

"Retirement is beckoning and that's a
wrap for me, but not before I say

one more time and proudly, 'That's the
World News Roundup, I'm

Christopher Glenn, CBS News.">>
