GRAPHIC=Plane Crash Federal investigators were on the

scene today of a fatal plane crash in
Augusta County.

The crash happened around Eleven
last night along Interstate 81, near
mile marker 232, that's close to the
Mount Sidney area.

The pilot, 30-year-old Benjamin
Randolph Hickin, was killed.

the F-A-A spent the day going through
the wreckage near the Interstate.

Last night witnesses say the
plane took off successfully from the
Waynesboro airport, but was flying too
low.

Authorities say the plane struck
a powerline, lost its wing, and then
crashed on the shoulder of Interstate
81.

Tomi Chittum and her husband saw
the plane burst into flames outside
their home.

Officials say there was no radio
contact with the pilot indicating a

problem during the flight.

After the crash, some folks did
NOT have power for a while, and traffic
cames to stand still.

It had returned to normal before
the early morning commute.

The F-A-A inspector said the
pilot was a conducting a test run on
the Cessna 182.

He was the only person on board
the airplane.

take a look at the crash.

in connection with a bomb threat at
Liberty High School.

The arrest follows yesterday's
announcement that a 16-year-old boy had
scrawled a bomb threat on the wall of a
restroom Monday afternoon.

Interviews with other students
turned up more information and a
17-year-old boy was charged today with
being an accessory to the threat.

Attorney General Bob McDonnell issued
an advisory opinion today that
executive orders guaranteeing equal
state employment rights for gays is
unconstitutional.

shelter in Beijing. Zhang Luping runs
the refuge that cares for 400 dogs and
200 cats.

I've only had three hours of sleep a
night for the past 10 years!, she says.

Zhang made a fortune investing in real
estate and then used it all to open one
of China's few private animal shelters.

There were so many abandoned pets on
the streets and I was forced to make a
decision, she explains. My business was
doing well at the time, but I needed to
take care of those animals.

Setting up a shelter for stray animals
is a kind thing to do in any country.
But the very idea of taking in
abandoned cats and dogs is relatively

new here.

When Zhang first opened the shelter,
she had to hide her animals from the
local authorities. Now, the government
has had a change of heart.... even
giving her awards.

But Zhang still finances most of the
operation herself.. from staff salaries
to fluffy towels at bath time,
mortgaging her last properties to keep
the shelter going without government
funding.

(NAT SOUND Dog Washing)

Pampered pets are now a status symbol
among wealthy Chinese but homeless pets
are often left to die. This student
brought a stray cat to Zhang when she
couldn't find anyone else to take it.

I think Zhang is really kind to
animals, she explains. Others might
have the same emotions but they
wouldn't turn their feelings into
action.

It is the Year of the Dog in
China....Zhang hopes that it's a good
omen for all pets...that others will

events today was in the weight throw.
Tech's Spyridon (SPEER-UH-DIN) Jullien
is the defending national champ in the
event. He gave it all he had but came
up just short finishing 2nd.

His teammate, freshman Mohsen
Anani turned in a personal best of 75
feet, 3 and a half inches or 22 point
95 meters winning the competition in
his very first season of throwing the
35 pound weight. Afterwards, he was
quick to credit his teammate.

Roanoke Civic Center several times died
suddenly this week.

Gospel music pianist Anthony Burger
collapsed and died while performing on
a Gaither Homecoming cruise out of
Miami Wednesday.

He was 44 years old, and a heart
attack is suspected. He did not have
a history of heart problems, but his

wife said he complained of chest pains
before taking the stage.

Burger played for the popular Gaither
shows, and earned Dove Award
nominations for his albums of
instrumental music.

Two albums and videos featuring Burger
are currently in the Top Ten on both
music video

and contemporary Christian album sales
charts.
