Wednesday The Homestead is one of the ski
resorts where there's been more than
enough snow all winter, but getting
enough skiers to come out has been
another matter.
One reason may have been the
skiing conditions LAST winter.
It was mild then, too, enough so
that The Homestead had to close the
slopes for a while.
No such problems this year.
The Hot Springs ski area expects
to remain open with good skiing well
into March.

A six member House sub- committee
last night voted unanimously against
the bill.
The proposed law would have
banned smoking in restaurants and most
indoor places.
Since Virginia doesn't have bars
- just restaurants- a spokesman for R-J
Reynolds argued the law would keep the
company from marketing its products-
which are legal in Virginia.
But for most committee members
the decision boiled down to property
rights.
Last night's decision was the
result of a new House rule that allows
sub- committees to kill bills.
