recently put down by the state.

A memorial has been set up at the
bear's former habitat at Maymont Park.

The animals were euthanized
Thursday to be tested for rabies.

That after one of them bit a
child who reportedly climbed into a
restricted area and stuck a hand
through a chain- linked fence.

The animals had to be put down
because the only way to test for rabies
is to examine brain tissue.

all they could handle with a brush fire

passing train may have started two
fires in the Concord area around 11:30
this morning.

The larger blaze consumed about
five acres of brush and threatened

Eventually he'll have surgery to repair

of surgery, with two procedures in just
the last ten days on his damaged eye.

Weaver an Emmy.

complications from cancer. Weaver was
81- and is survived by his wife of 60
years- three sons and three
grandchildren.

not win ACC player of the week honors
today - instead the honor went to his
teammate Shedon Williams.

But J.J. actually picked up an
even bigger honor this afternoon.

finalists for the prestigious Sullivan
Award that is given annually to the top
amateur athlete in America.

J.J. has set three major records
this month and is now focused on
leading Duke into the NCAA tournament

likes of Reggie Bush Matt Leinhart and
Bode MIller.
