man accused of killing his
ex-girlfriend at the Fairlawn Walmart.

He had already been arrested for
harassing her.

VO-NAT 45 year old Rodney Gene Startz is


charged with first degree murder.

He was arrested Saturday night
after a seven hour standoff with police
at his home in Radford.

Investigators say he walked into
the Fairlawn Walmart around 3:30 in the
afternoon and shot 46 year old Donna
Jean Angelo.

Startz was also charged in 2001 with
threatening to kill a person and
brandishing a gun, those charges did
NOT involve Angelo and they were later

dismissed from court.

early Sunday morning.

Police say they repeatedly

ordered 44-year-old Antonio Gomez
Navaro out of a vehicle.

When he refused, officers tried

causing what police say are non-life
threatening injuries.

weeks they were coming under fire in
northern Iraq.

In December, two of the men, both
Roanoke City Police officers, were

suddenly pulled forward.

The blast sent shrapnel into
OQ=hit by a bus. Dillon's arm, perforated his eardrums,


and set his legs on fire.

Another Roanoke police officer
Shane Fletcher and Lynchburg
firefighter Nathan Chapman put out the
flames and helped him to safety.

Assenat took shrapnel near his
right eye.

With weeks of therapy behind them
and more to come, Assenat and Dillon
are happy to be back with their
families� but wish they had come home
under different circumstances.

have ignited a large brush fire in
Campbell County today.

This is what it looked like as
about twenty firefighters from three
companies worked on the fire. It was
burning along Plum Branch Road near
Concord and took a couple of hours to
bring under control.

The fire scorched both sides of
the railroad tracks and threatened
several homes.

Authorities say high winds and dry
conditions made it tough to fight.

The fire burned about five acres
before it was under control.

A fire damaged a home this
morning in Franklin County.

The fire broke out around 10:30
at this home on Peter's Pike Road near
Burnt Chimney.

Officials say the fire started in
the back of the house near a dryer, but
was quickly controlled.

Officials ruled it an accident --
but are still trying to determine the
cause.

another one of the coaching vacancies
in the Blue Ridge district has been
filled.

the Lord Botetourt job is staying in
house and going to Rory "Tater" Benson.

Benson currently teaches at the
high school, plus he coaches wrestling
where he in the winningest coach in
Botetourt history.

went to UVa kicker Connor Hughes and
Tech's James Anderson.
